The Bird (Original Track) & Mazarati's Kiss released at last!!!

Jesse Johnson just added the studio version of The Bird on his MySpace page. I guess that makes it an official release!!!

U can also find Mazarati's original version of "Kiss" on their MySpace.

If u add the 2002 "release" of The Family's original version of "Nothing Comparse 2 U" (on St. Paul's website), that makes 3 "official" releases of unreleased Prince songs. That's why i love the internet!!!

By the original version of NC2U, you don't mean the album version? You mean the demo? I didn't know that was on St. Paul's site at the time.

That's pretty interesting being that Prince owns the publishing of The Time's recordings. By the way, did anybody get to see that live performance of The Time from 1983 during that well-known Uptown show. Jesse did his thang along with rest of the guys. Jesse was out there like he was Prince, Jesse was in the zone. Maybe it was because the show was in Uptown along with Vanity 6 and Prince being the headliner of that bill (the 1999/Triple Threat Tour). Jesse was ready to become a rock star with that performance.

Oh, I've heard that the Mazarati's myspace page is not the official site, it was a fan who did that site.

It's the 1st version recorded with St. Paul singing it (yeah i guess u can call it a "demo") It was previously circulating on some bootlegs. Yes, st. Paul released it 4 some months back in 2002.

I think the question of the ownership of the songs recorded 4 (& with vocals by) The Time or The Family is legally unclear unless prince had the guys sign a contract saying all recordings were his (which he probably did later, but not at this early stage of his career.)

The masters of the released versions of the songs belong 2 Warner & i'm not sure who legally owns the unreleased tracks or alternates (actually i don't think they are legally "owned" by anyone, which means that both Prince & members of The Time/The Family can use them) Anyway, i guess that as long as the guys releases them 4 free on their websites, without making any profit from them, Prince can't (or anyway won't) start legal trouble against them.

If so, then the song is not an "official" release. But anyway, once again the question of who owns it is very complex because :

Warner owns the released "Kiss", which uses part of the Mazarati recording.
Mazarati & David Z. own the Mazarati version since, despite the fact that Prince later used part of it, Prince had nothing 2 do with this recording.

So once again i guess no one with start a long & complex legal action over this...
