Just saw Mother's Finest in Winston-Salem

Just wanted to give props to Mother's Finest--a rock/funk fusion band that I had NEVER heard of until I heard Shelby sing "Baby Love," and had to find the original.

Prince has done several of their tunes as covers during the 3121 concerts, so clearly he appreciates them.

Funniest thing, though--the local band that "opened" at this joint in Winston-Salem had the bizz-alls to end their set with PURPLE RAIN.whofarted They stunk it up SO BAD--all I could do was stand there shaking my head. Of course it didn't help that 2 weeks prior I heard the man do it himself at the 3/31 concert at 3121, but C'MON!!nuts Ya just don't cover PURPLE RAIN! chainsaw

Ok, enough ranting. Check out Mother's Finest. They ROCK, and are FONKY at the same time. www.mothersfinest.com

Glad you got to see them, proud2bafan. They have been around since the 70's. They are still rockin as hard now as they were then. Great band. One of my favorites.

You said, "at Ziggy's no less. . ." Does that mean Ziggy's is a special place? I'm actually from Raleigh, so I had never heard of Ziggy's. To me, it seemed to be kind of a weird place--like a barn out in the middle of nowhere. . . eek) Cool atmosphere, just not what I was expecting! LOL! (Don't really know what I was expecting. . .but. . .)

The crowd was very diverse and seemed to know every song. Since I'm new to the band, I didn't know every word--but really enjoyed them, nonetheless. I bought the only album itunes has for them, which is a live album, and it's really good. I'll probably try to pick up some of their other CDs on ebay. eek)

lol Yeah, Ziggy's basically is a barn. Its not so much a special place, but the vibe is so laid back, and the accoustics are decent. I ve seen some really good shows there over the years:

A Tribe Called Quest
De LA soul
Meshell Ndegeocello
THe Roots
Common
Steele Pulse
Nas
Corosion of Conformity
Bad Brains

to name a few. Its kinda like Cats Cradle, only more beat down. On a related note Bloc Party cool cool are playing there next month.
