I'm not mad, even though this post sounds like it..but, I think he's done plenty of good for his Proteges. In fact, when Prince was honored by the NAACP, didn't he bring Sheila and Morris and Jerome and Tamar? I just think sometimes he gets a bad rap on his treatment of proteges. [Edited 3/23/07 11:07am] While he has worked with many artists, there are producers out there that have worked with just as many. I don't think Prince EVER did good for most of his protege's. Most of that was him trying to good for himself and to prove to others he had the chops AND most importantly used these people to put out HIS music not theirs. If he did good by these people...how many of them are doing anything musicwise now or DID anything musicwise once he was done with them? Christian Zombie Vampires

If you stopped working with Prince and you're now on your own, the power is in your hands to make use of your talents. Even if it was his music, I'm sure they must have learned something about music to jumpstart a career on their own. Did any of them say because I worked with Prince no one else wanted to work with me, not one producer? If that was the case then I stand corrected.

Prince was the one that ended most of the relationships. You're in one day and out the next. Sometimes he'd have someone let someone else know they were no longer on the pay roll. Most of these artists did nothing after he was done with them. WHy? Most of them weren't that talented to begin with. AND most of them were just outlets for his music. WB certainly wasn't going to put them on the WB label. Beside Prince had HIS OWN LABEL to put them on. If they failed, it's mostly due to him. If you looked pretty and didn't question much, you were his next protege. Most of his girlfriends were proteges. Many of these are really band members and not really proteges. The talented ones have secured deals after Prince and have moved on. Of these would be Morris Day Candy Dulfer - Not a Protege Sheila E. Jill Jones Wendy and Lisa Támar Bobby Z. I guess I was thrown off by your post because your original list included some with real talent so I questioned what would have stopped them from making it after Prince but I see you included a list who did. I think you left out BrownMark. I believe he has been doing some producing and released a CD as well.

If you haven't read Purple Reign or Possessed, I really recommend them. WHile the latter should be taken with grains of salt, there is a lot of similar things mentioned between the two of them regarding how Prince treats those around him, which apparently was not that good. I was just wondering why would someone with talent not make it after Prince.

wonder505 said: I just think that the music Tamar wants to do and the ones Prince wanted to produce for her were two different things. Prince's music is not radio friendly but it had great arrangements and the vocals were clear. Tamar's new music with Kwame is definately more hip and radio friendly but sounds like everything other forgettable reusable sampled music that plays on the radio now. In the end Tamar has to do what she wants and I hope she is happy. I'm still cheering for her. Seeing her live I know how incredibly talented she is.
Could not agree more. I was on her myspace page the other day looking for Holy Ground b/c someone mentioned they had heard it. I'm sorry but the songs that Kwame produced are You hit the nail right on the head--they sound like all the other reusable sampled music. Nothing original at all. I guess she has to do what she has to do to make it in the industry, but I'm disappointed in this new material. I saw her & Prince twice and was genuinely looking forward to Milk & Honey (esp. Redhead Stepchild). Based on these new songs, I won't be rushing out to buy her new album. I'll wait until it shows up in the used cd stores or the discount bin. (And then only buy it b/c of the Prince songs on it.) . [Edited 3/23/07 21:06pm] The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Imagine how excited she was when she got the call telling her that she would not only sing with the great man, but she would be appearing on one of his legendary albums?? This must have been one of the greatest moments of her life. The opportunity to stand out of the wilderness and record with one of the world´s greatest artists really presented a great chance for her to showcase her talents to the world, just like CAT, SHEILA E and others did. But what we get is a couple of DRAB songs on 3121 (most of us would agree that the Tamar songs on 3121 are the worst ones no?). And now, no one really cares about her. In fact she is much maligned, because we dont really want to hear HER songs on a Prince record, so we fastforward every time until we hear the real thing. Poor Tamar http://www.slumberlords.c...index.html http://electricfactory.co.uk/ ..... ..... Poor Tamar MY FOOT! Tamar has real talent, unlike most of what's out there now a days. She got to work with a living legend. I actually enjoy her contributions to 3121. I think if the songs had gotten the proper air play, they would have been popular hits. Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed could have been a really big R&B hit with proper air play and Love could have been at least a top 20 pop hit. After all BLB was nominated for a Grammy. I fully understand that Tamar wants to do what will get her in the mainstream. It's her career and I support her on whatever she does. I am anxiously waiting on new music and especially a CD. I don't fast forward Tamar's songs on 3121. On the contrary, I rewind to hear them again, especially Love and BLB.
