Poor Tamar Poor Tamar.
Imagine how excited she was when she got the call telling her that she would not only sing with the great man, but she would be appearing on one of his legendary albums?? This must have been one of the greatest moments of her life. The opportunity to stand out of the wilderness and record with one of the world´s greatest artists really presented a great chance for her to showcase her talents to the world, just like CAT, SHEILA E and others did. But what we get is a couple of DRAB songs on 3121 (most of us would agree that the Tamar songs on 3121 are the worst ones no?). And now, no one really cares about her. In fact she is much maligned, because we dont really want to hear HER songs on a Prince record, so we fastforward every time until we hear the real thing. Poor Tamar http://www.slumberlords.c...index.html http://electricfactory.co.uk/ ..... .....

Actually I think she's a great singer especially compared to the no-talent hacks on the radio today. And out of curiousity did you get a chance to see her live? I thoroughly enjoyed her live performance and thought she was incredibly sweet and talented when she interacted with us at the soundchecks in Vegas last year. Besides, Beautiful, Loved and Blessed is my second favorite song on 3121 after Black Sweat. So I think it's quite a stretch to say
we dont really want to hear HER songs on a Prince record, so we fastforward every time
So kindly speak for yourself. . . Besides, most Prince fans are going to hard on anyone new that takes attention away from Prince. I think people just didn't give her a chance and have been kinda mean and unfair towards Tamar. I didn't have a problem with her, (except the shows in Vegas which were too much Tamar and not enough Prince but whatever, still a good show) and appreciated him actively trying to promote new talent.

I agree. We didn't really get a chance to hear Tamar since her CD was not released and we don't know what was on it. I definitely enjoyed her when she was here in DC. "I don't make the rules. Girlfriend is going to do alright for herself, just you wait and see. She's got the talent. She's just got to put in the work! Her time to shine in her own right will occur and we'll all be saying, "Remember when Tamar was Prince's protege...my how she's grown!"

I disagree, BL&B is not one of the worst songs on 3121.
It did get nominated for a grammy...didnt it? It is also a beautiful song in my opinion. Also, I think Tamar will have hew own success apart from P as she can actually sing....whereas some of P's other women looked good, but could not sing well. (appolonia.vanity.ingrid chavez) Stand Up! Her time to shine in her own right will occur and we'll all be saying, "Remember when Tamar was Prince's protege...my how she's grown!" I agree, she gon be awright. . . but she's actually been at it since she was a kid singing in Girls Tyme, the precursor to Destiny's Child. I think she left to pursue a solo career before they became DC and has since had various record deals that didn't pan out, even before her stint with Prince. I bet her and her momma couldn't deal with Matthew's overbearing control and agenda to make Beyonce the focal point at all costs. But Tamar is no slouch, cuz she got a BS in Music from USC so at least she did something with herself. I'm not quite sure why it's taken her so long to catch on when she's been on the inside for awhile, makes me think that record companies don't know what to do with a real "vocalist" that may not fit the stereotypical R&B diva-in-training mold that seems to be a prerequisite for EVERYBODY nowadays. Individuality is not encouraged in the industry much, especially among young female artists.

Everyone's so hard on 'Beautiful, Loved & Blessed', sure I don't like Prince resigning to a duet, but who better to help him out? That song's one of my favorites. Throughout the album, she's provided wonderful vocals in Love and the above I mentioned. I sing along with her on "Love" so I can hear Prince's voice. It's one of the songs on 3121 that stands out above the rest. I'm not sure if I'd get Tamar's CD, if it ever comes out or if its already already, because she's not Prince, but I'm definitely a fan. She's helped Prince out so much and he's done the same for her. It's kinda sweet. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Fact is, Tamar has talent and she is young...she needs to get a good break... Rosie is one singer that probably can sing just as well...but it didnt happen for her.....Tamar has time...she needs the right producer, the right timing.... I wish her well. Stand Up! I'm not mad, even though this post sounds like it..but, I think he's done plenty of good for his Proteges. In fact, when Prince was honored by the NAACP, didn't he bring Sheila and Morris and Jerome and Tamar? I just think sometimes he gets a bad rap on his treatment of proteges. I just think that the music Tamar wants to do and the ones Prince wanted to produce for her were two different things. Prince's music is not radio friendly but it had great arrangements and the vocals were clear. Tamar's new music with Kwame is definately more hip and radio friendly but sounds like everything other forgettable reusable sampled music that plays on the radio now. In the end Tamar has to do what she wants and I hope she is happy. I'm still cheering for her. Seeing her live I know how incredibly talented she is.

Sure, I usually think of Prince above all others, but I can't ignore the fact that his proteges have helped him a lot in the past. Like Dez providing background vocals for Little Red Corvette (one of my fav. Prince songs), he made it really great to listen. And w/o the Revolution, 1999 would just sound like Manic Monday (or should it really be the other way around?) Rosie did wonderfully in Diamonds & Pearls, and Tamar's really helped in the 3121 album.
