do you people realize that it was not Larry graham but actually George Benson who introduced prince to the JW faith?
let's get it right Larry may be an elder and all that, but you know what? what business is it of ya'll to be upset about someone's personal journeys about someone you dont even personally know.

Really? I didn't know that. Prince does in fact thank Benson in the "Emancipation" CD booklet, and I always wondered what that was about... Anyway, glad to see that there are some people who actually agree with me about Larry!

But all you bass players (and musicians in general) KNOW what I'm talking about. Dissing Larry Graham from a musical standpoint is like dissing Mike Tyson or Michael Jackson - regardless of how you feel about them for other reasons[/b], you still can't overlook their skill. Larry Graham is THE reason why I play bass guitar!! Whatever you think of his personal relationship with Prince or his religious beliefs, you CANNOT deny the immeasurable impact that he has had on the electric bass guitar. Countless musicians (Prince included) have been influenced by him and patterned their bass-playing style after him. He is an innovator and a living legend. I think it is a shame that some folks refuse to acknowledge that. Rhonda got her funk from Larry and Prince. She wasn't funky when she first joined the NPG. However, she evolved into one of the funkiest players around. She credits her growth as a funk bass player to Larry and Prince. She is a musician, so she knows what's up. Please give credit where credit is due. Larry can play that bass! perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I for one, did not mention his JW faith. A person can be a prick, even if he does happen to be a JW. I did however, describe him as a parasite. This is not anyway a dissing from a musical standpoint, as he plays bass like a motherfucka, so maybe isn't the right time for such a comment.I seen him live and cant fault him as a musician. On a side note, George Benson did come in stage and perform with Prince at an after-party in London's Astoria back in '95, during the Gold Experience tour, so have obviously been in-touch before his JW days

The older I become the more ridiculous some of the comments seem.
Prince is in his forty's right? Can any 40 year old man be tricked into believing in something such as turning JW at that mature age? When you age you look back at the things you've done in life to see what they have accomplished and how they've made your spirit feel. Prince was always spiritual and just decided to go deeper in his older years. Prince also is a perfectionist. So since J.W.s are credited for abiding as close to the Bible as possible he fell right into place. Since then his whole attitude towards life, people, the planet and music in general has become 10 times better unless you are a person who enjoys reckless and adolescent behavior. The main reason people have a problem with him turning JW is because they loved the old crazy, sexual deviant that Prince used to embody. Now that this is gone, if he continues on the right path, meaning anybody can get recaught up into bad behavior, we see a more tapered down but not less musical person on the scene. He is trying to really actually "daily" live his life in harmony with the things he studies. Which is MORALITY! And of course we here in the States don't need anything like that hungh? Ha ha! Caught you with your funk down-ah! The man was a jerk, had a ghastly voice, was an innovative bass player a while back but when he worked with Prince he wasn't doing anything interesting. I've often mentioned that Bobby Z might not have been a great drummer, but he brought a really cool vibe along that permeated the whole band. LG might have been a legendary bass player - and no doubt he still has the chops - but there was just a really nasty air about his presence I found, well, quite upsetting! And just while I'm here, I don't have the slightest problem with Prince abandoning his raunchier songs at all - as much as I love them, the man's got the sense to act his age, unlike Madonna... Y'all need to quit sleepin on GCS. If you take time to actually listen to their records, they're great! And they really had a sound of their own, even though it was related to the Sly sound. Check out the Mirror or Star Walk albums for example. Don't just go by "One In A Million"! LOL
