What were they like?

Sheila's very nice. Over the past several years, she's been sometimes playing in small clubs, like La Va Lee in L.A. Afterwards, she sticks around and talks to people. She's great.

I dream of meeting Sheila E. If I get to see her at one concert or anything, I will go toward her and see if I can say Hi. She's a rare female percusionist. I just love her!!!

I met Sheila at an annual event near Dallas TX called Drummers for Jesus. Which is really cool because it has all these world famous drummers come perform with a local jazz band then each drummer gets a chance to showcase their skills and deliver a personal testimony about how Jesus/God have affected their lives.

I went 3 years ago and saw Sheila. When it was her turn to testify, instead of playing like the other drummers did, she spoke and sang a gospel song. She spoke about being sexually assaulted at the age of 3 by a babysitter and how that affected her and that turning to Christ helped to save her. I was like, "WOW!" eek

It was SOOOOO moving and had me crying like a baby but at the same time it was very uplifting. Afterwards, she took pictures and spoke to everyone that lined up. She looked beautiful and so serene. I LOVE her for sharing her story.

On a side note, the next year for Drummers for Jesus, John Blackwell attended. In his testimony he talked about how the death of his child affected him and his wife and how Jesus helped them through it. Again, he totally had me boo-hooing, especially because I had attended the Musicology concert on 4th of July weekend in New Orleans which was the first show after his daughter's death and I believe the day before her burial. At the end of the show, Sheila came out with John and prayed for him and the whole band, except Prince, came out and gave John a group hug and stayed on stage holding him for SEVERAL minutes. It's amazing how the lives of these people we follow can affect us. . .

BTW here's their website it's a really cool concept and they've attracted some of the biggest names in percussion. http://drummersforjesus.com/index.php

Sheila seemed nice. It was at 3121 and she loves her some Lena! When I was talking to Lena she came up to us on her way out.

She is very pretty and little like Prince.

I met Sheila E. & Rhonda at the celebration in 2002 when the air conditioning went out and Prince reserved the Chanhassen movie theater for us.We were leaving the theater and going to my car and saw them in the parking lot as they were getting into Rhonda's car.my friend who is more outgoing than I started the conversation with Sheila asking her what's she's been up to and she told us about her Angels charity.Rhonda remained quiet but did smile occassionally. The only thing I could say to Sheila is that I loved her music and she said thank you.She was so cool and polite.

I met Sheila at the Arturo Sandoval Jazz club, Miami, December 16, 17.. She is a rare gem, beautiful woman and human being she truly cares about her fans and calls them friends she is a good listener. I found myself sharing some of my life threatening experiences with her and told her how her ministry has help me and what a positive role model she is, she was deeply moved grabbed my hands and prayed with me.., I kissed her tiny hands !! It was a moment in time that I will never forget... She is a gift from the guy upstairs and a superb musician..She also has a Barbie size figure....

I have met Sheila few times I can't speak highly enough of her. She seems to always have time for the fans and to listen, everything is important to her. I also noticed when she plays she is also observing the audience getting their vibes and she gets so involved in the music, playing, she really enjoys every minute and when she plays with her family is pure love in the air.. Love that woman !!!

I met Sheila E. back in 1996 when her Dad, Pete Escovedo played at Jazz Alley here in Seattle. My friend & I even got to go on stage & have a "percussion battle" with her brothers!!!! After the show we met the whole family and even took a picture with her younger sister, who is FINER THAN FINE!!!!! She called me "Boyz II Men" (seemed like I reminded EVERYONE of Nathan somehow!!!!) Sheila wouldn't take pictures with us, but she graciously gave an autograph and a hug!!!!

It was VERY MUCH A FAMILY AFFAIR!!!! Sheila was the drummer, her brothers were the percussionists, and her Mother & Sisters sold the merchandise!!!! COOL!!!!!

I met both at the Family Jamm in LA. Sheila is sooooo nice. She endulged me while I complained about Prince not showing up. LOL. And had the perfect responses to "keep it moving". But a wonderful person.

I know this doesn't count but I almost had a chance to meet Sheila. Here's the story. I was walking up the stairs to the upper level at the old Glam Slam here in MPLS. And Sheila was in front of me, She slipped and started to fall, I held out my hands to catch her but she caught her balance, She gave me a quick embarassed smile, then she hurried up the stairs. She's such an inspiration to me, because I play percussion also. What's amazing is that for such a small woman, She plays with such fire and energy. She's awesome!!
