Associated artist song of the day: "Popular" by Taja Sevelle (1988) She wants to be so popular it makes her stand out on the streets at night and wave her skirt at every boy who passes by so popular...if only she'd give love a try love a try This is my favorite Taja Sevelle song.It was the third single from her 1987 debut album on Paisley Park Records.Lyrically, this song is similar to "The Glamorous Life",both songs are about women who don't want true love in their lives."Popular" boasts a funky, swaggering groove, infectious synth hook and a strong, catchy chorus.I'm not in love with her album but there are a few gems here and there.

Unfortunately, the video for this song is horrendous They used a lame remix version that isn't nearly as powerful as the regular version!
http://www.youtube.com/wa...e3xLw-VtI4 Why didn't they use the regular (album) version??!!

I loved Taja!
Great voice and great hair - and yes, this song rocked. Beautiful photo of her on the back of the L.P too. Sorry, a bit small, lol

Her album had a few other cool tracks:
"How Could You Do Me So Bad?" "If I Could Get Your Attention" (written by Prince) she really wasn't much of a singer but her album is decent.

Although the Taja Sevelle album is for sure not the most interesting associates album which stands the test of time after 20 years, it's still amazing how many albums were released on the PP label during that period of time, in particularly 87/88.
No classic album but there were worse (Dale, Good Question, Three O Clock).

Paisley Park Records started off promisingly enough, with great albums by Sheila E,The Family and Mazarati.By the late 80s,though,it seemed as if the quality of the releases went downhill.Dale Bozzio?? Good Question?? The early 90s gave us T.C. Ellis and Carmen Elektra. With whack albums like this,it was clear that the label was never gonna take off.

You know, I haven't heard her album for years. It's stashed away with all of my other vinyl. Apart from Sheila E. & Jill Jones she her debut album was one of my favourites. Hearing Love is Contagious is a real blast from the past.!!
