Morris Day and his songwriting skills

I was reading some of the comments on why Morris and the new members of the Time hasn't put out any new songs recently.I was thinking maybe the reason is Morris doesn't have good songwriting skills.Has anybody notice from the old Time songs that Prince(Jamie Starr)has written much of the music and Jesse also wrote some songs.Don't get me wrong Morris is an EXCELLENT performer and good singer i'm just saying maybe his songwriting is a little weak.

And Jam/Lewis basically wrote "Fishnet" and "Love Is A Game" off the DAYDREAMING LP. "Oak Tree" & "Color Of Success"?? Morris may have had some help!!!!!

You never know...just because Morris doesn't write great songs in a consistent fashion like Prince doesn't mean Morris is completely unable to write great songs.

While the possibility remains alive that Morris may have had help writing, I am not ready to concede that Morris is incapable of writing.

R U kidding me?? Based on the "new songs" on "It's About Time", I'd say it's just about a pretty moot point!!!! Although legend has it that he wrote "Party Up" on the "Dirty Mind" LP. And as a favor, Prince set up The Time around Morris.
I'm not saying he's not an excellent performer. Cause to this day he still is!!! But in the songwriting dept????? COME ON!!!!! Jellybean has had his hand in more hits than Morris!!!!! Monte has written some good hits as well. We don't have to talk about Jam & Lewis, cuz their legend is secure!!!And we don't have to talk about Jesse either!!!
If Morris is that great of a songwriter, then PUT SOME OUT!!!!! AND DO IT WITHOUT PRINCE!!!!! THEN AND ONLY THEN, WILL IT BE "ABOUT TIME"!!!!!

biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

Rhastus

Morris strength has always been as a live performer, but anybody is going to be underrated compared to Prince, Jam and Lewis, hell even Jesse

Fair 'nuff - ta!

While I'm here, though, do you have any idea what war he was talking about?! I don't think any of that crowd were ever in danger of being drafted! One of only two occasions I've heard an American use the word "Bloody" as an expletive (the other being in 319, of course)

I'm sorry he has no abilities. Fishnets, Black panty hose? That's terrible. I like the music but the words are worthless.
