lets talk about The Time producers

let's talk about the time and the music some of the members came to produce for janet jackson, jody watley and whoever else. Jam & Lewis contributing to popular music in the 80's & 90's and now is because of prince discovering them.

I'm not sure how many people realize this, but every member of The Time has written/produced at least one Top Ten hit outside of the band for other artists or their own projects. I wonder how many other bands have that distinction?

Every member? Of every lineup?

I'd be very curious to see a list. Have one?

I don't think Jesse has ever produced a top ten song for anyone, and I'm fairly certain Morris never has.

Someone should compile this.

I know Jam and Lewis did tons, Monte and Jellybean worked on Jane'ts Control St. Paul worked on Paula Abdul's 1st album, but can't think of others.

another one of them worked on jody watley's first album, I'm guessing monte moir cause a lot of the songs have the pleasure principle sound to them, though I could be wrong

one of the other members produced pretty boy and fast girls on janet's dream street album, I just can't recall who did what

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Andre Cymone who did most of her stuff? It's possible Monte did some additional work too. but Andre wrote/produced almost all her stuff and was secretly married to her.

Jesse did some stuff on Dream Street.

Lewis & Jam have obviuosly had many hits.
Monte had Janet's "Pleaure Principle" (#1)and Alexander O'Neal's "If you were here tonight"(top ten) and a couple of others I think.
Jellybean had Janet's "Black Cat" & Nona Hendrix "Why should I cry" (both top ten)
Jesse Johnson produced/wrote 3-4 top ten singles on his solo stuff as did Morris. That's all I can think of for now. So all of the indivuals have had excluding Jerome who doesn't play or produce nor was he originally in the band.

I'm speaking of just the original line up of The Time who have all had hit records on their own.

Don't forget Jesse's work with TaMara and the Seen and DaKrash. I don't know if they made Top 10 but I think they did pretty well....on the R&B charts. As for the pop chart, I could care less. Hell, I wish Prince had never made the pop chart. lol

They have all had top 10 R&B hits. Hot 100 hits, no.

Jesse's biggest song on the Hot 100 might be After 7's "Nights Like This".

I looked it up last night. Jesse had two top 40 hits. After 7's "Nights Like This" and Ta Mara and The Seen's "Everybody Dance". Both went to #24 in the U.S.

I think "Affection" by Tamara did even better on the charts. I remember hearing it on the radio

No. Ta Mara only had one top 40 hit.

They are all very talented!

Moir (my personal fave!), Bean, J&T, JD, MD and JJ.

Who produced the CHERELLE stuff btw?
I LOVED IT!

And here's a fun article I found:

The legacy of THE TIME recently hit an all time low, as Terry and Jimmy produced a hit for Jessica Simpson this past year.

"Affection" may not have been Top 40, but I remember it being a big hit on Black radio, along with the ultra-funky non-album B-side "Baby, You Turn Me Up".
