speaks in tongue, a really strange language when she gets to talkin' about the Lord. I wonder why she hadn't made a Gospel album or something by now. Has she abandoned any and all kinds of music forever? Or maybe her vocals just ain't what they used to be, she was never no Mariah but she could carry a tune.

It's probably a good thing that she hasn't put out any new music.I'm not sure if a gospel album from her will be well-received hmmm

Maybe she's too busy. She's an evangelist, and travels around speaking at different churches. Plus she still has health problems that dictate how much she can do.

Yeah, you really need a strong voice to sing gospel.Weak voices work fine in pop music but if you're gonna do gospel, you gotta have the goods.

DaVanity's comments wasn't a slam or accusation. confused faking what for 20yrs? as a bad a singer as she is you couldn't really fake it. she was always sex appeal and charisma and that doesn't necessarily sound good on a gospel cd. wink

Yeah, let's be honest here. Does anyone actually respect Vanity as a musical artist? Not really. She was 80% image, 20% music. Without Prince in his prime writing songs for her, I can't see her accomplishing much in terms of recorded music.

Vanity was all image.

No,that's not what I'm saying confused

Nobody doubts her sincerity.I just don't think a gospel album will be well-received.Seriously,how many people are gonna go out and buy it? Her pop records didn't even sell.

Hmmmm maybe everyone on this board? Every Prince fan? Every Vanity fan? Every Denise Matthews fan? Just because she was associated with Prince and ya can't think of her without HIM! It would be a piece of HISTORY of some sort. Why on earth would ANYONE buy Mayte's album (she ain't no Mariah Carey either)? .....EXACTLY, SEE ABOVE. thankyaverymuch!

I have to say, being a true VANITY fan through & through, that I agree to a certain extent with some of the comments about a gospel album maybe being a challenge for Vanity.

I love some gospel, but for the most part, it takes VERY STRONG vocal skills (see Juanita Bynum!). But, I'm certainly not sayin' Denise couldn't do it. I'm sure this lady could do WHATEVER she puts her mind to. She has proven that time and time again! For all we know, she could be working on it. Who knows!

But, I also agree that it was mainly her beauty, image and uniqueness that brought her fame. Even she admitted that she was no Barbara Streisand! But I would also say that I thought her real proven skills were in acting. IMO, she could have really taken that skill a step further. And again, maybe she will. Clifton Davis has done some mainstream acting recently. So who knows!

Also, she DID stand alone without Prince. She continued to act, and put out music. Her music career was not a failure. And I really believe that if she had not changed direction into evangelism, she may have still been perfecting her singing skills, finding new producers, and still recording likeable tunes.
Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.
