I have heard that at one time, Prince had a crush on Patrice Rushen and wrote a song for her.
Is this true? Did he write a song for her? Did she ever use the song? If so which one is it?

The song is "I wanna be your lover," but she passed on it, so he ended up doing it himself.

The rest is history.

Patrice worked with Prince on his earlier stuff. I'm willing to bet he learned a thing or two from her.

I always thought it was "I Feel For You".

He did seem to have a thing for her though. I remember seeing a picture of the two of them in "Right On" magazine in probably late 1979 or early 1980. They were walking on a sidewalk and he was holding her hand. He was a little bit ahead of her on the sidewalk and she looked like she was yanking him back.

Thanks everyone for answering my Q.

and somehow I got it twisted that Prince wrote "Haven't you Heard" since that was Patrice's first hit, and I knew they were 'involved" early in her career and he wrote a song for her...

I guess I been nipping at the purple koolaid.

as I recall she also played with him on Saturday Night Live in Sept. of 1989. I always thought she had something to do with the song "Baby", but my memory is foggy about that.

She's playing at Yoshi's in Oakland in January. She will be part of a trio w/ Buster Williams (bass) and Lenny White (drums). www.yoshis.com

Yep, "Baby" it is nod she played the keys and her then boyfriend Charles Sims Jr. arranged the strings.

Both weren't included in the credit but they were among the folks he shouted out in his thank you message.
