LOL! I have to agree with you. I saw Justin on GMA playing sexy back and it was sad to see Mike Scott and John Blackwell. It doesn't seem like a band-type song and they were playing but not playing, you know what I mean?

Its NEVER sad to see professional musicians getting paid. You 9 to 5 types don't always seem to understand that. Those brothas are making the paper they need to feed their families and their art. More power to them.
Working musicians get paid by gigging; regardless to who's hiring. I'm glad they are able to get big gigs.

Tell em' blaque. And P himself would tell them they must be high on crack if they didn't take a high paying gig. It's business. And they gotta get it while they can. What are their going to do? Get a job at Target while waiting on P to call them back? Nah.

Thank U both! I don't think non-musicians get it - to say that "I'm a FULL-TIME musician - this is what I do, this is how I pay my bills - is the ultimate. For any person to be able to make a living doing something they love - I'm pretty sure Justin plays well...Ask cats like Greg Howe...

Why do folks think that if you're not playing with Prince, you're not doing anything with your life? These guys are MUSICIANS - they play MUSIC for a living, not just Prince's music...

that was not the intent of my post. Ofcourse i'm glad to see them working and getting paid and travelling the world doing what they love. I just made an observation based on how I have seen them perform in Prince's band vs. what I saw on GMA. Since I have only seen them play with Prince that is the only comparison I could use, it could have been any other artist, known or unknown.

so this is what it comes to. when you have a disagreement with someone it automatically means they are fanatical?

No. It just means you should be a little more up on the musicians you speak of BEFORE you speak on them. John Blackwell played with Cameo and Patti LaBelle long before he played with Prince. Your knowledge of Blackwell obviously came via the Prince connection but I knew who he was long before his stint with Prince. The point of the musicians is that fans follow an artist's journey but musicians have to go where the money flows.

Interesting post,i am indeed a 9to5er. I have many friends that are "artists" and you guys are unique to say the least.

Do you mind expanding on that last point you made, about artist following the money?

Pretty simple - gigging musicians gig. On the local level, it may mean playing with 4 or 5 small bands. On the national level, it means jumping from tour to tour. Sometimes you have to use another artist to get your own music made. Case & point, Greg Howe playing on Justin's tour on his 1st CD as well as Greg taking Jennifer Batten's place on MJ's tour. Its another way for him to afford to finance his own records. It beats working at WalMart. Fans tend to follow whatever artist they are into and the players that come in and out of that artist's career are usually discarded by the fans if they are on a path different than that of the artist they are interested in.

thanks for the Mr. Know-it-all tone in your post. i'm not sure why you needed to tell me who john blackwell played with because it had nothing to do with my post.

I made an observation of a performance I saw on Good Morning America when Justin T performed Sexy Back. I clearly stated that it just didn't sound like a band song and it looked boring. the author of this post saw another performance of Justin and the band and made a comment that they looked bored, which was similar to the observation I made. ofcourse we could be wrong but its just an observation, nothing more. No where did I state that they lacked in any ability or only played with Prince.
