Girl 6 - OST & Movie: Your Thoughts?

I watched this movie last night for the 1st time.....

Spike Lee & Prince made one helluva marriage with this flick. The songs seem to flow nicely with the storyline,,,,,perfect example is the How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore? scene nod

I love the movie.... regardless of the soundtrack. I snapped it up straight away as soon it was finally released on DVD after only having the VHS release for so long. Very funny film, I think it was a bit of a dip for Spike Lee critically/commercially though?

The soundtrack is great, I thought they missed off some better songs from the movie though like Housequake and 17 Days.

The movie is nice but not as deep as many other Spike Lee joints.

The soundtrack is cool, weird combination of odd songs, but cool. And it´s good to have some of those songs in better quality ( Adore, etc.) ....the sound is much better on the OST than on SOTT the album.

Mmhmm nod

Spike Lee is a VERY indie-ish moviemaker, he uses that "independent" approach in his movies. This flick is anything but conventional(like the rest of his other movies) which is the reason why it didn't sit quite will with the likes of Ebert and whats his name lol

I liked it, not Spikes better films, but good. He uses sex and race in interesting ways, and Teresa Randall is just stunning. Woman like that not being big stars kind of proves racism in Hollywierd is still at fever pitch.

Spike doesn't know how to use Prince songs in a movie that well I thought. He damn near bastardized them with that sillyness he used them for overall. 17 Days short use was hot though with song and image (entering dance club). If only another could get pwermission to use Prince music in their directors chair. You'd think Spike would have done better.

The soundtrack I loved because it had some good paisley park and vintage Prince stuff on cd for the first time such as Nasty Girl and Screams of Passion. Well, I mean I never had those cds of V6 or The Family at that time it was released.

Film...hmmm, not sure. Like The Cross segment of the movie, thought that was quite clever. Think the 'tits out' sequence is hypocritical...

The OST. V Good compilation... even if the title track is a weak 'Creep' rip-off.

Haven't seen the film still, but I always thought the soundtrack was rather a hotchpotch with no flow or theme to it. It'd been good if they'd done something like putting all lustful songs on there or something, but of course it depends what was used in the movie. An official Prince album that isn't really a new album despite new songs, neither a greatest hits collection since it contains tracks from his proteges, kind of hard to decide where it fits in the Prince canon of albums...

Whoa smile

I thought you guys would dig the movie. Sure, its not a social commentary like "Do The Right Thing/Jungle Fever/Bamboozled...etc" but I feel that he exposed the hypocrisy of Hollywood in a somewhat comic way, altho some of the shit in there is anything but comic.

I do believe that the some song selections could've been better, but he made GOOD use with some of them too nod

Yeah, I did find some spooky moments too nod

Thats why it was called "black comedy" or dark comedy,,,he maintained the haunting vibe through out the movie.

The movie was fun, though not Spike's best. And the soundtrack, while a hodge podge of favorites, wasn't particularly ambitious. The Cross, Power Fantastic, She Spoke to Me and Don't Talk to Strangers were used well, I think. But the other songs felt randomly tossed in, IMO.

All in all, the Prince-Spike collaberation was cool to see, but I think both could've turned out better work here and merged more memorably. Stevie Wonder's dedicated Jungle Fever soundtrack, for example, was a far better execution.

One of my favorite all time movie soundtracks. I listen to it regularly.

The film is pretty good, but the soundtrack stands alone just fine. Nice collection of hits. Flows perfectly.
