Wendy and Lisa: Do they have a greatest hits CD?

...and if they do, what does their music sound like. I'm actually thinking about getting it out of curiousity...never have heard their music solo

you're joking right? lol

I think it's safe to say that they didn't have enough "hits" to justify a compilation.

Anx

i actually think they do have a best-of, though it was only released in the UK and i'm guessing its way out of print...though i might be thinking of a remix album, now that i think of it. hmmm

i'm sure one of the W&Lheads can answer this waaaay better than i can, so i'll shut up. but i know there's SOME kind of comp out there. nod

W&Lhead reporting for duty!

Yes, actually - they do. Three of them, in fact.

Sony released an album called "Always in my Dreams" in 2000 (I think). It was billed as a greatest hits, but it was actually just from the two CBS/Columbia albums. So I think it left off most of their better work.

There was also some European label that did a greatest hits prior to that, I think called "Are You My Baby", with the very worst picture ever on the cover.

Virgin also did a remix compilation called "Re-(Mix-)in-(a-)Car-Nation" back in 1991 which included remixes of 6 tracks off the first three albums. Of the three, this is the better album, but it's hard to find these days.

You'd be surprised. They had several charted hits in Europe and did several media and tour junkets there in the late 80s and early 90s. I was always surprised when my UK friends were around and remembered hearing songs from my W&L CDs in clubs and on the radio when they were kids. You didn't get much of that in the States!

Yes, yes, I know - and they're "big in Japan". Still, it's true.

See I didn't know about the greatest hits CD either but I would definately will be looking into this.
I agreed that Wendy and Lisa had a good following in Europe and Japan too. I always respected my UK friends too because they had much wilde and sophisticated taste in music than my USA friends. smile My UK friends always asking when is Wendy and Lisa comes back to Europe and tour.
Seriously, Wendy and Lisa also gained some fans too because of the scoring of "Heroes", and I heard people said nothing but good things about their composing.

Thats crazy, I still can belive how big a lot of artist are over in europe, and Japan, but how they dont get a lot of attention here at home, plus so many women musicians dont get respect anywho, so it sucks both ways sad anyways, I'll probably get their greatest hits...

another question: what should I expect?

To this day, Wendy and Lisa still struggles to be taken seriously as musicians and often believed they had success only with Prince, so what do you think that makes them feel? They still deal with interviewers who asked them, What they have done since 1986?. Their body of work as solo musicians is more than their time with Prince but yet the general public often thinks that they hardly accomplished too much outside of Prince.

But I know what you mean that women musicians doesn't get their respect though.

The sad thing is that a woman (especially black women like myself) always have to shake their booties to be taken seriously...now there is nothing wrong with a woman dancing, I think dancing is beautiful, but not when its degrading and just x-rated...I just think its sad that many women musicians, like Wendy and Lisa, arent taken seriously...but I'll bet you their satisfied in their hearts smile

I know what you are talking about and it is even twice as hard as us black women to be taken seriously too. But I think that Wendy and Lisa are getting their respect with the thanks of Heroes but still thats long overdue. Another cool thing about them is that they have the most diverse fan based (I didn't realised this before join the org), other than Prince that I know of, who have highly respect for their work. wink

They are indeed cool as hell. I was too young to support them when they made their three albums but when I discovered their solo efforts in the mid 90s by reading a Prince bio book, I couldn't find any info about them making solo albums until I got access on the internet by 1996. I was a fan of Wendy and Lisa since 1992 yes through Prince but it took me four years to find info about their solo albums. Around 1992-96,I always think about them everyday wondered what they were doing and all that time they was doing work with Seal and also among other odds and ends. But they are so busy doing TV scoring on "Heroes" and "Crossing Jordan" to do seriously work on an album right away. I had the pleasured to chat with Ms. Wendy Melvoin through email several times back in 1999 when she used to run Wendy and Lisa official website. She sounded so cool and answered all of my questions. I was grateful that she even replied. Now Lisa runs it and she is too shy to answer emails so bring back Wendy to run the site again!!! Just kidding Lisa if you are reading this. But we understand you just busy making some cool and funky music. wink

That is very cool you got a good deal on the shipping after they told you whats up. Hey hun you don't want to give them encouragement to charge more to ship non-USA residents in the future shhh since they have a huge non-usa fanbase and more probably want to order that cd from them. biggrin Believed it or not I heard they be checking in here. I know shipping charges doesn't affect me but I am trying to lookout for you guys here. lol
