Morris Day in Atlanta Toyota commercial

Anyone in Atlanta see this? eek I saw it yesterday on WATL 36 during Maury. Has it come to this. He says the "What time is it?" line and does the bird sound and everthing. He's got on a red suit and looks exactly the same +10Lbs.

Tell me it ain't so! Tell me, you're just joking! C'mon -- humor me already. If it has come to this, can't Morris get a record deal? Maybe pair up with Dez or Cymone and put something out? There's a big market for the old Minneapple sound -- just ask Justin Timberlake. Certainly, one of the originators of the sound can do better than this....

Sad-but I'm happy that he's still making a living.

Still making a living? Morris should be doing very well. He tours on a semi-regular basis with the Time (or a group pretending to be the Time), and he should be getting some type of compensation for cd sales. He's not a bad looking dude. Can't he get some bit part on a sitcom or something? I'm telling you..he could make a return of the Time type album and make a killing. But it would have to include new material. Then again, I think Prince has the rights to the Time name..

I agree-there are many options out there 4 Morris-hope he can take advantage of them.

Believe me Morris does alright. Go play 2 shows a week on the weekend and do whatever he wants to do during the week.

I'd love to see the comericial if somebody in the ATL area could copy it and put it on youtube or something

Agreed. I remember he guest starred on an episode of Moesha a few years ago. The only way a new Time record could work is if all the original members participated. I don't see that happening anytime soon, With all of them busy with various projects. Plus I hear that there's some beef between Morris and Jesse. Prince would probably want to be involved in some type of way. I wish it would happen. It sure would be nice.

my mistake he just says the "what time is it?" no bird sound and he says something about ATL being his city. Its run several times this morning on channel 2.

I tried booking The Time once but was quoted $20K plus 13 flights. Of course that was by a booking agent so deduct 15% if you can get them direct and you're still talking at least $15-$17K. I'm sure Morris gets at least $3K of that. Those weekend gigs add up to enough money to live on - that's for sure.

That what does not make sense. He is making good money and his face is out in the public. He could be doing other things but he does a local T.V commmercial.
WTF

Toyota probably came up with a decent amount of money. But somehow, I can't picture Morris driving anything but a yellow Cadillac lol lol

Now y'all leave Mr. Day alone. He has to make a living just like everybody else around here. If you wanna gossip about the man's sex life, that's something else. But LORD PLEASE... it's just work. Cut the man some slack...

I agree with scorp84. nod
Afterall, Prince's image was seen nationwide for Chevrolet a few years ago and guess what?...the world is still revolving! lol

Morris is using his persona and celebrity status to get paid and stay in the public eye (whether it's doing cartoons or advertisment). I'm sure he is happy that the phone is still ringing!

I don't think it's cool at all ,Morris is very talented and if you guys saw the commerical, you would think the same way, it is a cheap looking commerical that was done in poor quality, I do think that he should put out another album but with the original members of the group , especially Jesse Johnson, but they first must leave all of their egos at home, and BTW jesse johnson has a mywebspace page now and it looks like he is coming out with another album, I really missed the sound of that guitar he plays, what awesome talent he has shown over the years on his albums and within the group. I even think that Prince should lend a hand and have something for him but don't do commericals that is a sign to me that he has gone rock bottom.

if Morris had played his cards right,he could have been a superstar. After 'Purple Rain',everyone was saying that he could become the next Richard Pryor, but alas it didn't happen.
