Prince's advice...

...I don't know if any of you ever saw the TRL with Prince being interviewed talking about how people's enviroment influences their spirit and how basically it is very important for one to pay attention to what the expose themselves to because it affects the person they become...never really ever thought about that untill I heard Prince point that out. It is true that our enviroment, what we put into our bodies and what kinds of people we interact with determine how we feel and how our spirit feels. I find that the unhappiest people are the ones that poision themselves with drugs, alchohol, junk food, and negative relationships that deeply damage their self esteem. Not that that makes them bad people, definatly not...they just are unaware or overwhelmed by the self abuse they impose on themselves. Is this you?

Here is a brief little article basically saying the exact message Prince was trying to get across in that interview, I think, I know some people can be turned off by the words God, Bible, ect...but if you just listen to the basic idea I think you will find it educational.

No, I wouldn't say that's me. I do agree with this logic to a point. I don't believe we are solely a product of our environment. It's also nature, how we were born. I do believe we are all born with a certain basic personality that cannot be changed. Obviously our environment influences us, but who we are and how happy we are is also part our chemical make up. For example, sometimes people have serious problems with depression even if their environmental influences are positive and healthy. Depression is sometimes the result of a chemical inbalance in the brain. I do believe that if a person is depressed and their environmental influences aren't healthy that the depression can be that much worse.

This is an interesting thread topic Krystal! Not your usual "I wanna do Prince so bad!" style! lol Just kidding! I think you are a very nice person. hug

Thanks hokie1!
Btw yes I think depression can be inherited. I find that highly intelligent/sensitive people are more likely to struggle with it. So I think it is important for them to pay attention to their enviroment as to try and encourage their health like you said.

But you don't have to have depression or tendencies for depression to take this advice. It's kinda like your social group...being selective about the people you spend time with and let into your world should be discriminating. I see alot of my girlfriends bitch about their friends/boyfriends who cause them stress, unhappiness and make them feel just plain bad about themselves. I think that is a result of some self loathing on their part. More than likely they are unconcious of this and think they "deserve" to be treated that way. Kinda like they are addicted to the drama? Then they deal with the discomfort by medicating themselves with drugs, alchohol, food, work, sex. I think it is much more important to spend time with people who encourage you to be yourself, accept you for who you are rather than just hanging with people as for ways to escape yourself for fear of being by yourself.

But anyway back to the topic I more people should be aware of their enviroment...when you are aware of the things making you unhappy and causing you stress then you can correct them or eliminate them much easier from your life. I think exposing yourself to positive people and situations can better enable you to do this.

yes and no. for me, life is about not selling my soul to the devil. i believe in illusions!!! we can't be pigeoned holed. i've met good, decent, loving and caring people who don't believe in God.. as a matter fact, never cared too much about God. and what is your idea of depression? and who the hell invented that word?
You f*cked it up

Nice thoughts, but as hokie said , it´s not just th environment, though it does play a huge part.

Why do you stigmatize drug use so strongly ? I mean , I am against hard drugs and live quite a healthy lifestyle , some even call me a health and fitness freak but I truly believe that the occasional sip of wine or a little weed every now and then can be very healthy..all in moderation , of course. But I do catch your drift.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I mean hard drugs, excessive drinking, even abusing perscription pills. I don't look down on people who use drugs, but I do have my guard up around them that is all. Hey I drink, believe me, and pot is not really harmful imo, it's just that part of my life is over...I was way too much into drugs in my younger years and it clouded my judgement and made me very unhappy.

When I abused drugs and alchohol...I was a very negative, unhappy girl....when I gave that up and surounded myself with hope, positive people, and health I am amazed at how much I've grown up to be a healthy, mature, responsible young lady. My self esteem, and self confidence just skyrocketed when I turned to face myself and be aware of how I treated myself.

I just have a cautious view of drugs because of the way it lured me into a period of self hate that is all. People who are truly at peace and feel good about themselves don't need to escape with drugs.

But yes KoolEaze I agree that drinking or smoking pot can be apart of a healthy lifestyle if someone knows how to use it in moderation.
