There is a good book out about ADD that when I read it, the first person I thought of was Prince. I'll have to get the name of the book later because I can't find it right now. But in it, it describes a person who has difficulty focusing on one thing, and is apt to move from project to project without fully completing the first project. In relationships even, during sex, their mind is going constantly and they find it hard to linger because they become distracted easily. They may hyper focus on something, shutting out those closest to them and their partner may feel unloved or uncared for, but that's far from the case. It's just the hyperfocus helps them to deal with the constant need for stimulation, and the constant thought process that never seems to shut off. (This may be why Prince doesn't sleep at night.)...

Just my .02.

A lot of that sounds like being a Gemini. smile

I do not have ADD, but I'm a total Gemini--I get very bored with things. If I find something I like (e.g. an artist, musician, etc) I will read everything I can find about them. I used to get in trouble all the time in school because I was not challenged enough and bored with the work. I think Prince is very smart (not just musically) and has so many ideas that he wants to try that he can't get them out fast enough. Especially when he was younger.

twocents

Just adding my twocents - If Prince had A.D.D./ ADHD There would be no way he could learned to play all of his instruments, write music or create the body of work that he has. Prince is no different from any other celebrity in the respect that he has a lot of money, a lot of options, and more priveleges than the average person (especially when it comes to women). He has no problems exercising those priveleges. He's a workaholic, and maybe a fickle individual, maybe at times a saint, maybe at times a complete jerk, but I would hardly diagnose him with a mental disorder.

Actually individuals with ADD or ADHD are typically high achievers if focused in the right direction and can typically focus very well on an area in which they are interested and that constantly challenges them. My husband is an extremely good business man and in business he is very focused. It's other areas of his life that reflect his ADD. I'm not saying that Prince is ADD, however, he does have quite a few common traits with individuals that are ADD/ADHD.

I can agree in part with that, I am not trying to disrespect or invalidate you or your husband. I can agree with the fact that there are people with different biological/ chemical imbalances beyond their control, which can cause many mental issues that do need to be controlled with meds. I guess I'm just the type a person who is critical of mental and emotional diagnosis because people never seem to take into account that we as a society put un-natural pressures on ourselves and others to be "super-human" instead of just being human. Also the fact that we are an overly visually stimmulated, overstaturatd culture, always in "want" mode never being satisfied. I think that how you were socialized as a child plus the added pressures of your adult life can also manifest themselves into a variety of emotional/mental issues along with a persons biological makeup. We are all different and all us are in constant mode of adjusting to our lives. We all have issues whether we admit to it or not. I'm always worried about the people who claim to be "normal". Sometimes meds are justified, sometimes people need to just face down their demons or simplify their lives the best that they can. That's just my view.
