Ladies and Gentlemen...THE TIME!

I have never been able to get enough of the jams P gave to the Time. 777-9311, The Walk, The Stick, Get It Up, you know. Specifically, the 1981-1983 stuff. In your opinion, where would you rank the quality of the songwriting and the music of the songs given to the Time relative to P's prolific history? Some of his best stuff? More secondary to his own stuff? Just curious. Peace and chicken grease.

Lyrically, the songs are fun, but not necessarilly his best work. Musically, the best of the time's songs ranks up there with the best of his output during that time period. But the songs that aren't on that greatest hits list you've got there are , for me, more forgettable than Prince's non-singles at that time. Basically his throw-away songs were better than The Time's. Nevertheless, Prince's work with The Time made a great combination that ended too soon.

I think had he kept "Get It Up" or "777-9311"for himself, He would've gotten a hit, But I can't picture him doing "Cool" or "The Walk". Alot of those Time songs just didn't fit his personality.

Which probably explains why he gave them away to the Time. BTW, didn't Lisa write the Stick?

I believed she wrote the lyrics whilst Prince came up with the music.

She probably did. That's interesting because the womans voice on the background vocals does sound like her.

It's interesting that she wrote it since the picture we all have from Lisa is that introvert person behind the keys, not someone to write a song with those kind of naughty lyrics....

For the first I listened to the Stick and I have had this CD forever. Is Morris singing at all on this track?

Yeah, he says: "Will somebody bring me a mirror....what song we on?" lol He actually sings more than that. But remember Prince had the songs already recorded for that first album and Morris just came in for the vocals. On Girl, Prince's voice is particuarly noticeable. Lisa is all over the stick -- no pun intended..

Never dug The Time. They just sound horribly dated and corny to me. Oh, and The Bird and Jungle Love are SHIT. Yes, I said it.

I wouldnt let anything passed Lisa after she performed 'Head' with flying colors. smile No wondered Prince called her nasty on that "Lisa' song. If you are big Wendy and Lisa fans like myself, you would know that she also have a sense of humor. A little bizarre at times but she is kind of the person that would cracked you up once you know her beyond her shyness.

lol and now, here's my controversial opinion:

The only essential Time albums are the first two.

The other two albums ('Ice Cream Castles' and 'Pandemonium') are less-than-thrilling,IMHO.

Yeah, I'm the only one that thinks 'Pandemonium' is a quality record. I rank it right up there with 'What Time Is It?'. The only filler track is Prince's "Data Bank". Take that off and I say it's better than the second album! nuts
