i sincerely miss Renato

for a while there prince had a man on keys that did things during
the liveshows i've never heard in any of his shows before.

sure, he's had other good up to amazing men on the keys but Renato
is my ultimate favorit amongst them.

his loose interpretations, wicked style and seemingly effortless
way of playing the most fantastich parts had me drooling.

i love 95% of all his solo's i've heard and it's such a shame he
only appears on a handfull of studio releases and doesn't have a
stage to really shine on any of them.

it just makes me sad to think he's gone from the band now and the
non-linear input he might have had went with him.

I have taken a few friends to different Prince concerts and the number one theme heard from each was..."wow! that guy on the keyboards is something else!" He is diffinitely missed..add blackwell on drums and you've got an incredible 1-2 punch. Does he have any solo material?

I don't know if he has any solo records, but he is on Sheila E.'s Writes of Passage CD from 2000.

Agreed. Plus, he just looked boring. Prince's days of a bland band. Give me The Twins dancing like whores anyday over some regular musician.

i don't mind that as much as i was bugged by the fact that he looked like he was passing gallstones whenever he did a solo.

I miss Renato too. That boy was BAD on the keys! He was SO COOL! During the 2002 Celebration, I saw Renato outside Paisley Park smoking a cigarette, lookin all cool. He had a sexy Brazilian accent too. Prince once said he looked like "Carlitos Way" and he was right lol

A) He is Brasilian not Cubano. Big difference in the accents there.

B) His solos were not "2 jazzy"... his solos were, in fact, diverse, along with his playing in general.

C) According 2 Graycap, he will joining the former Revolution members 4 this upcoming tour...

I read this last night, but it crossed my mind at work today...
I liked Renato, but I'm glad Mr. Hayes is back. I just think he's got this incredible energy that meshes so nice with Prince. He was with Prince for so long, and he just morphed along with him. It was kind of sad when he left. Don't get me wrong, Renato had his funky moments- he 'hurt my feelings' once or twice musically during the "Musicology" tour, but...lol

Okay, Okay, I also think Mr. Hayes is so damn SEXY, despite the "hair things" he goes thru! eek

Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Renato has more versatility and is a better soloist. I think he may be the best keyboard player Prince has had in his band (though Dr. Fink and Lisa had excellent chops, too).

Mr. Hayes is a far funkier, player, though.

Gotta say I wish the band continued to include Blackwell and Renato...heck, we could add Mr. Hayes to that contingent.
