Graham Central Station-Release Yourself LP

This is PR1NCE'S favorite album by Larry Graham in which he quoted in the liner notes "SYMBOL'S DARE" in GCS2000 which was part of the New Power Pack during The New Power Soul era. Today, I listened to this LP in its entirely and i have to say that it is not a bad album. The good songs are " Got to go through it to get to it" , " I believe in U'', "Tis your kind of music", and "Feel the Need". The big standout for me is the last song "Today" because the music along with the lyrics is HEAVY. Even the lyrics of this song are so smart and very inspiring. The harmonizing guitar solo is SO FURIOUS!!!

Today

Today is the first day of the rest of your life with your new wife
U have the nerve to pity me
I wont but Time will tell that life with U is hell
Music is the only love

You live a nightmare not a fairy tale but it helps U sell
Cause all U want in life is gain of fame
I wish U filthy rich
And as for your new hitch
Music is the only love

I wont but time will tell that life with U is hell
Music is the only love
I wish U filthy rich and as for your new hitch
Music is the only love

U have good taste. The song "Today" is one of my all time fave songs by anyone. I've ran a few threads regarding this song over in the Non Music section in the past. I think the song is fantastic. The bassline is very melodic and it blends genres of funk, rock and classical all in one cut. It has a Beatle vibe to it as well. But if u really want to hear where I think Larry "borrowed" from, listen the the band Argent and their song "God Gave Rock And Roll To You". It was also covered by KISS, BUT u will only hear how similar it is to GCS by listening to Argent's version. There song was released a year before Larry's "Today".
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."
