I love Vanity but...was she racist?

I really love Vanity and all but I saw this interview with her on youtube and I was shocked at the comment she made about her father...Im not sure if she meant it as he acted like one or b/c he was black...I would shrug it off but after saying that shes like "hes black"...I doubt she was racist because shes 1/2 black and the majority of her men have been also black confuse
well, you have 2 see it 2 know what I mean...
we cant post youtube links but go 2 youtube and look up Vanity 1986.It is in part 1...overall its a pretty good interview and VERY rare.

I doubt it. You have to remember she was dating Rick James (before P stole her from him) and she was married to a football player in the 90's (that was black)..and she was with P. I seriously doubt she was racist.

Now LaToya Jackson?...That's a different thread.

Denise's father mentally and physically abused her. I read somewhere that even today that she is having a hard time forgiving her father.

Wow! I didn't know she and Rick James dated. How did they meet? How long did they date? Why did they break up? So did she have a choice in being lead songstress in V6 or MJG???

She was probably coked up or joking or something. Anyway, she's lovely. This is the first Vanity interview I've seen.

She arrived at the 1982 American Music Awards with her date Rick James.Somehow,Prince enticed her away from Rick.Shortly thereafter, she was officially a Prince protege, recording the Vanity 6 album.Undoubtedly, this is one of the reasons why Rick hated Prince for so many years, lol.

Also, Rick once claimed that while the two of them were on tour, he told Prince that in the near future he was going to put together a girls group and make a movie called "Alice In Ghettoland. Well we know what happened with Prince afterward. Rick went on to produce The Mary Jane Girls. It sure would've been interesting to see what kind of movie he would've made.

I hope he didn't go to his death still hating Prince.

I know when I saw him a few years ago, he was still hatin' on prince. People weren't feeling the show because he was drunk, high or something. He said, "ya'll get on up. This ain't no Prince concert." he got some boos for it. I thought it was sorta funny. That had to be the worse concert EVER. Rick was high and talked for an hour or longer, then it was Al green who preached for an hour and 1/2 and Mary J Blige had about 30min for her show and she was the headliner.

Yeah, and I wished Rick had kept his mouth shut and not told P shit about what he was planning on doing.

I just thought it was cool that he boo'd for making the remark about Prince. As a matter of fact, I think he even said, "oh ya'll like prince here. " LOL...but then here comes Rev Al...we went from hell to heaven....Al sang and preached and sang and preached....then you sorta realized...We ain't seein' no MJB. Mary came out and just said...we just gonna run through it...She just ran through her set.

I recall a 1982 interview with Rick, where he mentioned a movie called Spice Of Life, described as an autobiographical musical. The plan was for many of his proteges to co-star (Stone City Band,Teena Marie, plus a cameo by The Temptations). This sounds exactly like what Prince came up with for 'Purple Rain',but I don't know who came up with the idea first hmmm

Yeah totally. I'm sure she did have major issues with her father but she must have been high during that interview. Actually practicaly EVERY interview I saw with her in the eighties she looked high as hell...expecially when she would go into fits of laughter for no reason. But she'd probably admit to that anyways, didn't she say she did so much crack in the eighties you could light her up and smoke her? See there you go, she wasn't racist she was high.
