I really love The Time but I have to agree, things just aren't the same. They've become like a Vegas act...grinding out the oldies, going through the motions year after year. Also, they don't even have the original members.

But I still like'em, tho!!

I like them a lot, however why can't they find a producer or get in the studio and work with each other to create some new hits?

Jimmy Jam once said half-jokingly that the Time will release a new album as soon as Prince comes up with some songs. Now that he's a JW that will never happen of course, but I can see Jimmy & Terry taking over the writing and production reins. They are the only people I would trust with a new Time record.

Yeah, but they haven't which tells me they won't.

Maybe it is time 4 them 2 move on? On 2 what, I don't know.

I'm talking a producer who can build upon what the Time has, which funk, not trying to hard to be hip with the mainstream but not sounding of the past with the same old stuff either. Look at Mr. Big from the Isley Brothers. I'm not a huge fan of his current stuff, but he has a couple of tracks (not the R. Kelley duet crap), but a few good tracks to keep his show fresh will singing the classics. [Edited 7/5/06 9:28am]

Ladies & Gentlemen.....I love The Time as much as ANYBODY on the org. But let's shed some light on a few facts: 1) The Time was CREATED BY PRINCE!!!! 2) He wrote, played, sang and produced the first three LP/CD's (no matter WHO was on stage playing them) 3) Jam & Lewis and Jesse produced a good portion of "Pandemonium", which was a good LP/CD. BUT: the "hits" were "Jerk Out" & "Chocolate" 4) Morris DID go "New Jack" on his "Guaranteed" CD. But that shit SHOULDA been "Warranteed". But then again the "new jack" era of R&B was THE WORST in R&B's history!!!!! 5) All the O.G.'s returned in 90, but won't come back as of late. We could go on for days & weeks on the org. The fact of the matter IS.....f**k it, just see reason #1!!!!! There is some "stranglehold" on this project. It's like it can't or WON"T be done w/o Prince!!!! If THAT'S the case, they SHOULDA DONE IT A LONG ASS TIME AGO!!! Remember when Jam & Lewis was throwin' "The Secret" around????? ANYONE????? .

If there's ONE producer that COULD give The Time (excuse me: Morris Day & The Time) some FUNK, then WHY NOT FREEZE????? Have y'all heard the job he did on Suga Free's new CD????? He basically gave a CD worth of funk to a pimp/rapper. Maybe THAT'S WHAT TIME IT IS!!!!!

and thus begins a journey (in my head) to find The Time a new and good producer. Not out of disrespect but RESPECT cause they are way too funky to keep singing the same ole songs.

They were headed that route back in the day....have u seen the DVD of the WEA convention in 90??? "Girl" was 20 seconds then they shifted into "My Drawers"!!!

Based on the "It's About Time" CD, I'd RATHER listen to the hits than those four "new" songs on there. THAT was the whole reason I didn't buy the Cd. Shoulda just been a "Greatest Hits Live" disc!!!!!

Yeah what was "The Secret" J&L kept talking about back then???
They also kept saying they were saving Terry's bass playing for it, but we never got to hear what. WTF?

If they would just release the shit thats in the can I would be happy. prince, Jam and lewis have all worked on stuff with them, but last I heard the egos were still battling it out.
If 2004 wasn't the right time, then when is? As much as I love this band, I think Morris is just content to play his 2 shows a week and cash the paycheck. I think the rest of the band has pretty much accepted that fact as well and its a way to support their other projects Now would I love to hear some new shit and see changes in the show. Hell yeah But if it hasn't happened in the last 10 years, when is it?

I wouldn't want anyone else to produce The Time except for Prince. Can't see why he won't take on a project like this. The CD could be released on NPG Records, distributed by Universal. It's a shame for them to become just an "oldies act".

I wouldn't even trust Prince to produce a new Prince album much less a Time album. They're over. Move on. None of them are who they were in the 80s and we can't turn back the clock. The hunger isn't there nor is the incentive. Reflect on the Time that was in the form of b**tlegs and be content.

No. The worst era in R&B history is right now... it started about 8-10 years ago. BUT...I never did like it when old school heads went New Jack Swing, but U can't knock New Jack Swing in it's funkiest form.... the form of it's inventor, Teddy Riley. New Jack Swing was the bomb. Teddy even made the old schoolers sound right at home with it... Just Listen 2 The Winans track "It's Time". Turn that shit up, and tell me U ain't groovin'. Peace. HOWEVER...
I am an old schooler, and I'd rather hear R&B from the late '70s to the mid '80s... Especially the greasy fat-ass synths from around '81 or '82. But New Jack Swing had it's place, and it was funky. Teddy's imitators weren't all that though. Peace. "He's a musician's musician..."

Man, people can put whatever they want on a piece of paper in an album sleeve. There is nothing legally binding that says that credits have to be 100% truthful. Credit usually goes to whoever is paying the bills.
The Time is what it WAS. An 80s R&B band. Nobody's doing the "band" thing on a large scale because labels don't want to pay people. Labels pay for "tour support" only these days. Since they won't be getting any deals and they obviously have creative differences (only an idiot would believe a band full of highly capable musicians couldn't come up with songs in the same vein of what they've been playing for years), there hasn't been and there isn't going to be a new Time album. I suspect the REAL reason lies in contracts rather than creativity, though. Prince ain't letting them do jack without his okay. And I agree, New jack swing was the worst R&B in history. At least now we have Neo-Soul. If it were a little more uptempo, it'd be a LOT cooler.
