Wendy Melvoin (30%) Dez Dickerson (29%) Levi Seacer Jr (15%) Miko Weaver (13%) Mike Scott (8%) Kat Dyson (4%) Total Votes: 249 Time for a run-off!!! Now let's be real: It's always been Dez VS. Wendy. I just love that woman. Especially during the Purple Rain tour she was killing on some solos.

I love Wendy and she did some amazing stuff with P. She held her own and (like all of P's musicians) was very versatile. But I have to go with Dez. Dez had a cool look, cool gear, and from the bootlegs I've heard and seen he could rip the guitar up. He was a bad cat.

Wendy is more technically proficient and has a larger musical vocabulary but in my opinion, Dez helped Prince pull together a lot concepts of the "Dirty Mind" album and tour. He was there to help get it all started and to some degree helped create the "Prince" character/persona--Dez gets my vote!!!!

Wendy no contest. Her demand for session work speaks for itself. She may not be a great soloist but her SOUND is unmatched. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Between Dez & Wendy, gotta give it to Wendy. Although Dez's solo on LRC is historic and memorable, Wendy was/is no slouch on the strings.

Dez, if for nothing else other than making people think Prince was a better guitarist with the Little Red Corvette solo.

There is no comparison....Dez was way better than Wendy as a guitarist....Wendy was known along with Lisa for her songwriting with the Revolution...DEZ was a ROCK N ROLL GUITARIST....Wendy was more of a session guitarist. In my opinion, the Controversy tour was the best example of his display as a soloist.

No question it's Dez. Dez influenced what P ended up doing very early on. From being more confident in showcasing his rock influences in his music to fashion, Dez was PARAMOUNT to Prince. His impact was crucial. No doubt about it. At that stage in P's career, Dez definately had Prince's ear. Dez already had his style and image BEFORE he even hooked up with P. Image wise and musically, Prince didn't know what the fuck he wanted to do and that's evident from his first album. Dez, being a brother, and being a die hard rocker, musically and visually, boosted Prince's confidence in being more daring. Having a cat like Dez in the band, at that time, when P is running around in his Dolphin shorts and suspenders(?!), you can best believe he helped P get his shit together. Look, the first time I saw P in concert on the Controversy tour, Dez was the one I watched and studied. His stage pressence was off the hook and he DEFINATELY looked the most polished and the most pro in the band. And he ran circles around P in the confindence department. By the time I saw them again on the 1999 tour, P had a TOTAL transformation. He was sooooo much better, as a performer. He now had the more polished and more confident swagger that DEZ had ALWAYS had from the get go. The whole band did, for that matter. U think Prince didn't pick shit up from Dez? Better think again. And don't forget about Dez as a songwriter to P's thing. He not only wrote the lyrics to The Time's first big hit (Cool), but wrote all of "After Hi School", and Vanity 6's "He's So Dull", which is awfully similar to the musical section in the chorus to "Little Red Corvette". Word was that Dez actually wrote the music to LRC and that's why P let him record a guitar solo to the song. That very solo broke all kinds of ground for P and opened all kinds of door for P that predated Purple Rain. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
