Sending Tamar Some Positivity

Tamar, if you are out there:

You are "beautiful/loved/blessed" and I wish you well on your endeavor!hug

I have seen so many threads bashing you for various reasons (and I don't get all of them). I am guessing that there is someone out there in cyberspace monitoring activity regarding your name and it probably sux to hear the nasty criticism on subjective topics. You are just a young sista trying to make it.

I may be particial to you b/c in Atlana, you picked me to go on stage with you & Prince during the "80's" dancing, but I heard you and got a good look at you up close and you have it going on! I do have to agree that we need to do wardrobe check for t.v. performances - b/c you are presenting yourself to new people every appearance - but other than that, you have great talent and I will buy your cd. music

This is my first time EVER creating a discussion, and my husband asked me to do a specfic Prince post, but I reserved my first for you. After reading a few of these treads, I figured you deserved a break today. flower

Sending positive vibes to Ms. T. clapping

She needs all the positivity that she can get. She has become the new Larry Graham. Poor thang.

I am really looking forward to her album. I can't wait to hear what Redhead Stepchild sounds like recorded. I also look forward to hearing the song Milk and Honey, as I've seen a couple of good reviews about it.

P needs to get a single and a video out for her though. How can there be buzz about her, outside of Prince's fan community, without a single or video?

Unfortunately, I think that's going to be the fate of almost anyone working with Prince these days, and it has been since the late 80s.

In the early to mid 80s, Prince was a "kingmaker". The Time, Sheila E., Vanity 6 -- all were able to ride the Jaime Starr train to fame. Over time, Prince got more indulgent with the acts. First there was the 2d string: The Family, Jill Jones, Madhouse. All of them composed of folks with talent but -- with the notable exception of Madhouse -- all of them also hamstrung by Prince's micromanagement.

Then you get to the Taja Sevelles, the Ingrid Chavezes, and that string and from then on it's been in my opinion a complete joke. Carmen Electra? Please. Say what you will about Prince on American Idol: that's what he's been doing to potential talent since the late 80s, and on through more recent time working with artists like Larry Graham and Chaka Khan who have been around the block long enough to know better, but don't seem to care. Sing exactly this line, in exactly this way. A focus on the dance moves over substance. Dress like this, talk like this, work this shtick.

And: don't be too good. Look at the early history here. When The Time started to overshadow Prince on tour, he stuck them behind a curtain to back Vanity 6. Since then, Prince has always known better than to let the artists he produces outshine him. And so, their fortunes are linked to his. In times like these, when Prince is beginning to see cultural relevance again, Tamar may just have a shot. Maybe. Or, maybe she just looks like another desperate artist who despite her own talents (or lack of them) is holding onto the Royal Coattails. Either way, the fact is that having Prince as a producer has not actually helped anyone since the mid-80s, and has hurt quite a few. (Ask Jill Jones how that work with the incredibly talented Chris Bruce is going. Ask her how it might be going if she weren't always still "That Prince Girl" to people.)

Sorry. Tamar may or may not be the next Ciara. I don't know. What I know is that she's made an absolutely terrible choice in trying to have Prince get her exposure. Anyone with sense knows he's been peddling schlock for years . . .

You got that right. Prince need to get a single and video release now and also stop trying to pushing Tamar exclusively on his fanbase. I do love her voice and all but it seems like more than half of his fans arent feeling her. He need to focus on trying to promote her to the non-Prince fanbase more. I think that Tamar would do well if she get promote the right way, but I am having an apprehension feeling about this and it reminded me of Jill Jones sort of by not properly promoting her almost 20 years ago.

Good points Katrina. I think that Tamar needs to bounce out and do without Prince. I guess it is cool for her that she has a superstar mentor in all but from the look of Prince's tracking history with his former protegees, she is in it for some disappointment and heartache.

Tamar, you're annoying, and your career is fucked for trusting The Kid to help you when he can't even help sinking his own albums.

Right on!

She should drop him and seek this dude' help:

He might be an arrogant ass, but hey, at least he is a great producer!
