Which touring band (not counting the time you spent with Prince) do you feel was/is his strongest? i can't really say from experience. i never saw a prince concert, while i was coming up. the first time i saw prince play live, like in the same room as me, was at bunker's.. if i had to pick a favorite line up, based on footage i've seen, it would probably be the sign o' the times/lovesexy touring band. michael b. @sonicfreak's post.
hey mr. bland, i just recently watched a news segment (or maybe somebody posted an article here) about the death of session musicians and i was wondering what your take was on that... the article mentioned how during the late 70's there were players who the industry would call upon to help flesh out a song...not neccessarily as a songwriter but someone who would bring a certain dynamic to the sound. nowadays we have producers who rely on computer keyboards to flesh out tracks which in my opinion limits the creative juices... thoughts? How do you feel about people asking you mostly about your relationship with Prince and what you think about him etc.? And what are you up to now? VBB [Edited 7/4/06 14:56pm] not sure how i feel about it. i think people envision us hanging out, drinking wine coolers together.. LOL prince is significantly older than i. it wasn't like we spent our spare time together. i don't think people in their early 30's SHOULD be hanging out, or trying to bond with 19 year olds. i had nothing to share, but my talent. we did some good work together, and enjoy seeing each other and working together, to this day. it's really no deeper than that. just members of the mutual admiration society.. that's all. i joined soul asylum, two septembers ago. we're playing on the tonight show, this monday, july 10th. the album comes out the next day. michael b. [Edited 7/4/06 19:57pm] [Edited 7/4/06 20:11pm] Wine coolers? I was thinking Thunderbird for sure! Wow Michael, I didn't realize you were so young. I'll look forward to seeing you guys on the Tonight Show. Do you know if I can pick up the Soul Asylum album anywhere or do I have to get in online? wine coolers..... Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

When you were playing with Prince and the NPG and touring a lot in the mid 90s, how did the audiences differ from country to country? Did the band look forward to a particular leg of the tour coz the crowd were a little more 'up for it'? I recall Prince in an interviw saying in Japan, tamborines were put on the chairs of the first few rows as a present. But the Japanese left them behind afterwards as they were not told they were to keep. In the UK we would've been fighting over them! it was mostly pretty similar throughout.. holland was always pretty much insanity.. michael b. THANKS, I see that as a compliment Your Dutch friends !! Hey Mike.
Do you recall doing an interview with Prince and the Band on the stage of the Gold Experience Tour at Wembley Arena England, when Prince (face covered in a black scarf) answered questions via Mayte. He whispered the answers to Mayte and she told them to the rather fine lady interviewer. Did this seem silly to you? I can remember it did look very silly, even for a fan. ----------

Hey, Michael. I don't think this has been asked before.
1) Do you think Prince lurks here? Considering his interest in the internet, I imagine it's hard not to visit a site called .org. 2) Also, what do you think about him closing down npgmc? He doesn't want to work with labels on other than an exception, short-term basis, so how do you think he will get his prolific work out there to the fans? Gracias. Come here, babe.. yeah...

michael b. Why do you think he doesn't check out the site? I thought he was a big fan of the internet -- surfing all the time. When he was giving interviews in 2004, he would remark on rumors he'd seen on the Net. So he's checking out somewhere. Plus, this seems like such an obvious place for him to visit -- him being a narcissist and all. Seems like an odd site for him to avoid. Come here, babe.. yeah...

Michael, It seems to me that for the most part this trend toward producer driven output does inhibit the creative flow in many instances. My opinion is that too often, the "hot producer of the moment" vibe is very formulaic and becomes boring to my ears after a short time. At times, there is a hot debate raging over whether Prince needs some type of producer to bring freshness to his vision. You can guess what I think about this, but what do you think? Ps...thanks for hanging out...the wine coolers are on me. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Hi mike,thanks 4 your time!
Something bee bothering me lately after reading and finding info on musicians i found alot of them to be violent towards women (James brown, jackie wilson, sly stone, hendrix, mingus, axl rose, slash, steven adler, jim morrison, icke turner, tommy lee, van morrison). I have heard bad stories about Prince. Do you know about any violence towards women? What are his general feeling about women? Do he respect them?

Do he respect them? no, i have not seen any violence towards women. you'd have to ask him about that. i don't think there's any way of knowing how a person really feels about anything, unless you witness them in their private life. i think people are alot different when they are behind closed doors than they are when no one is around, in general. michael b.

What percent of tracks would you say Prince did on his on during your time with NPG? Did Prince write ALL the lyrics? Did anyone have their work uncredited? Do you know Jimi Hendrix has an history of domestic violence including breaking his girlfriends nose by kicking her in the face?
