The Greatness Of MADHOUSE

Hey come on in...jazz/Prince fans and let's talk about the greatness of Madhouse. I'm about to go put on Madhouse 8 now!!! 17 was my favorite song on 1-800-New Funk-. Do you want to see 24 get released eventually??? I'm an avid jazz fan and would love to hear some more Madhouse released. Let's talk Madhouse..people!!!!

Madhouse was definitely a great jazz project. I have their 1st 2 cd's and I love both of them. I wish their was more Madhouse music because I love the funk jazz influence that they had.

I love Madhouse, but to me, it's not madhouse without Eric Leeds on Sax and Flute.

I love 24, but since the Dopamine Rush suite went to Eric's Time Squared cd, I doubt that album (at least the first version) will ever be released.

I like 17 on New Funk, but from the other tracks I've heard of the second version of 24, I prefer the first version.

Sonny T and Michael B are one of the best rhythm sections I've heard, but Madhouse with them in it didn't have the same vibe as the Paisley Park version.

Anxiety

I'm lucky enough to have 8 on vinyl and CD and 16 on cassette (so okay, I'm not THAT lucky!). I like 16 quite a bit - it has that crunchy SOTT sound - but when I'm in a Madhouse mood, I tend to throw on 8 more often, mainly cuz my hand reaches toward the CDs before the cassettes. Alas...

I would say that I wish there were more Madhouse albums, but TRC feels like a final integration of the Madhouse concept into Prince's own albums. Thoughts?

I too, love 8 & 16 with a passion. To me, the first incarnation of the 24 album sucked bigtime! I hope that album never does get released...it tarnishes the Madhouse name. I did kinda like the 2nd 24 album. Its a lot better musically, but still doesn't even come close to the 1st two.

You can find copies of both 24 albums floating around auction sites around the internet. Good luck.....

Fun thing is that on Times Squared my two least fave tracks are The Dopamine Rush and the title track. These two feel like total Prince compositions, while the other songs breathe more and do not feel "straight-jacket'd".
On the Madhouse albums, this did not bother me much; I adore "Six". But Times Squared had a more defined jazz-feel to it. I agree with Codsort; the first songs delivered for @$ sucked bigtime, to me they felt flat and uninspired. I really think Times Squared is the 'real' 24, methinks.
24 is best left unreleased.....

Madhouse stuff was the Bomb. Face it. Prince has too many angles to play. We will never know if we will see it.

The First Madhouse was alright at the time but aside from a Couple of Pieces it hasn't aged well at all for me.6 was my cut&the Extended Version.Madhouse 16 Boring for me.I liked Eric Leeds Solo Albums on Pasiley Park better than Madhouse Albums overall.but all 4 Combined really haven't held my full attention.the Madhouse Projects after that I Listen to them a Few times&got Bored.I Like the Album Cover though.but this was a SpringBoard to the stuff He did with Najee.some alright stuff in places but nothing I want to listen to for long periods of time.for me in Hindsight Madhouse was on the lines of Kenny G.&Boney James&Down to the Bone,etc..it has some moments but nothing I'll rock alot overall with the Heavyweights.

It sounds like Xenophobia will be the next "Madhouse" recka.
It's supposed to be all instrumental and Candy plays on it.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
