in a nut shell it says that she was a little girl at Prince's concert when lionel first saw her.. she was singing and dancing on stage. lets go back 24 years ago was right around the time of 1999 just before purple rain. she says that her biological mother was a "friend of prince" and her father was a member of lionels band. now lets see rumor has it Vanity left because of money problems.. but wouldn't it make more sense if it were told.. that she was with prince at the time cheated got "knocked up" ( i hate the term but couldn't spell the other word). prince dumps her or she leave which ever. then she is out of the sene until after purple rain. enough time to have the baby, then return with an album ... hmmm more oon this thought... I have read something about this before (sorry, I can't remember the article) which said that it was somebody who worked in the wardrobe department who was the mother. She was unable to continue to care for Nicole and Lionel Ritchie fostered her for a while after seeing her on stage at one of Prince's concerts and then later adopted her.
I don't think it was Vanity. | |

I think you all know that I LOOOOOVE rumors.
so imma add my two cents. now #1) Lionel and Sheila E have worked together for years and stuff, right? well, Nicole is actually Sheila E's 'niece' (so says the Richie/Escovedo families) and I don't know what member of Lionel's band is her dad. The 'niece' part, though?... i dunno. While I am certain that she is definitely not Vanity's child, I ain't so sure she is Sheila's "niece"... catch my drift? | |

Here's what I read, Nicole is Sheila E's brother daughter. He and his
girlfriend, Not Vanity, had a baby. Lionel and his wife couldn't have children. Sheila's brother was taking care of the baby cause the girlfriend left him with Nicole. He couldn't handle it and Lionel and his wife offered to adopt her...He gave up Nicole to Lionel and his wife. | |

I don't think it was Vanity. Yes, I heard Lionel say this on a TV show. He said that the woman was clearly uncapable of taking care of Nicole and so Lionel and his wife adopted her. But, naturally, he never said really how the mother was involved with Prince and the concert. Hmm... | |

Because he did say that he saw Nicole on stage on a Prince concert, that her mother was clearly uncapable of taking care for her and that he and his wife felt like they just had to adopt her. It is Peter Michael and that is Nicole's dad. I read a couple years ago that Peter Michael wanted to reunite with her when he was doing the Wayne Brady Show. But Nicole didn't wanted to do it and said that Lionel Richie is her father and consider Peter Michael as a distant friend. | |

What I don't get is why nobody in the Escovedo family stepped up to raise this kid? Pete was like, what 20? Shit, it's 16-year-olds raising their kids, y'know? If her mom was obviously unfit, why ain't he take his kid and raise her himself? damn, sounds quite trifling and selfish to me. I heard she still speaks with her birth mom but nobody knows who she is really. | |

But that is a good question as for the why some of the Escovedo relatives didn't care for Nicole. | |

I think she is Juan's daughter not Peter's, Peter wasn't ON the Purple Rain tour. Peter Michael admitted himself that he is Nicole's father. I never said Peter was on the Purple Rain tour. You must got me mixed up with another poster. I said that Peter Michael was a musician on the Wayne Brady Show and that he wanted to reunite Nicole on the show but she declined because she wasn't comfortable of doing that.
