I suppose one could argue that they are Prince-connected... ***They are from Minnesota ***They worked with producer David Z,who also did work on several Prince albums ***In 1987,Prince offered them a song "Neon Telephone" for their second album. They turned it down. ***In 1986,there were rumors that The Jets were gonna be the opening act on Prince's 'Parade' Tour. ***They filmed their 1987 video "I Do You" at Paisley Park.

They are not. They just come from minneapolis and they once rejected a song called neon telephone that was offerd to them by Prince.

They could be from Louisiana for all I care - they came around at a time when just being associated with "The Minneapolis Sound" meant something funky was goin' down and live instruments were involved.
Glad to see they're still recording. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

I seem to remember from back in the day that it was the little purple one who "discoverd" them at a Minn. hotel while they were performing. That he was often credited for getting them in the door so to speak.

Their parents migrated to Salt Lake City from the island of Tonga. They started performing Polynesian shows on the hotel circuit through the upper midwest, and got stranded in Mpls. because one of the hotels went bankrupt. A man named Don Powell discovered them (he previously worked with people like Stevie Wonder and David Bowie). He signed them to his production company and became their manager. Don also got David Z. involved who co-produced their first album with him and got people like Matt Fink and Paul Peterson, etc. to play on the first album. They did shoot their video "Cross My Broken Heart" at Paisley Park Studios before it even officially opened, and recorded their third album there as well, but other than that there was no official Prince connection - other than their using some Prince associated people to play and record their albums.

Hence the Prince rumor that I heard...
