Dez released a 2CD Retrospective set a couple of years back, it was on that.

It's well worth getting, the rest of the material is great, very Pat Benatar/Billy Idol sounding rock/pop from the early/mid 80s. It's available from his official site.

Watch Dez's band on stage in "Purple Rain" and LYAO at the dude on the right. That dude was working that 10 secs of screen time like nobody's business.

My friend has the CD & the book. The ORIGINAL version of "After Hi School" is COOL!!!! Matter of fact, ALL THAT STUFF IS COOL!!!!! It's a CRIME that record companies didn't reach out to him for some of that music. It woulda EASILY been at home on those "valley" type mpvies (Fast Times/Bueller/Breakfast etc.) And in NO WAY is that a DISS!!!! Dez is a very talented guy. I also heard that after leaving Prince, he did a tour with Billy Idol....COOL!!!!!

Prince would be the FIRST to tell you that Dez was a integral part of his SOUND. We could go there & say that 98% of the "Associated Artists" solo CD's SHOULDN'T have been released. I'm not gonna name names, but you KNOW what's up. PLUS: A lotta of those record companies wanted him to dumb down his music to sound like "his purple baddness". After reading his book & listening to his music, I'm willing to say that he influenced a certain blonde rocker & his big black haired friend.....have you read his book yet?? If not, IT'S A MUST READ!!!!!

COOL!!!!! I'm not knockin' your opinion. YES- by "today's standards" his music may sound "dated" (I wouldn't say "wack"). But today's standards are so f**ked up!! And to an extent so were yesterday's. If someone as talented as Dez Dickerson couldn't get a deal, but someone like Carmen Electra got one handed to her on her "bress-es-ses", then SOMETHING IS WRONG!!!!!
