Morris Day - Its About Time - Orgers Thoughts/Reviews

I was just curious what everyone's thoughts about Morris Day's live release, Its About Time?

Personally, I dig the live version of "Jungle Love." I totally downloaded it on iTunes after hearing the little sample.

What did everyone else think...?

I only like the live version...but they are very short and with too many overdubbs!

I agree!

They should bring TLC with them and do a raunchy version of "Get It Up"

how come i've never seen anyone here talk about the track "last night"??
I'm not convinced that P had nothing to do with this song. Aside from the public enemy drum loop, it's classic prince, check it out.
Keep your headphones on.

It was rediculous for it to be called a Morris Day album when it was obviously a live album by The Time. The live stuff was good but their live performance on "The Tom Joyner Show" from Milwaukee was much better.

The new tracks were horrible. Shit hop bullshit.

I would've preferred the unreleased Time album, I agree with vainandy, the new songs were dreadful, completely forgettable.

I think it's safe to say that it was released as a Morris Day album purely for contractual reasons.

I found it
here's the review I wrote when it first came out

I've been debating about doing a review since I got it last week. I've
probably played the whole album 4 times and the new tracks alot more. Any
way here it is

1. The Bird- as much as i like this song, it has really gotten old. Most
times that i've see them live I'm either trying to hide so i don't get on
stage or I'm actually on stage so I kind of tune it out. Solid performance,
unfortunatily some of the lyrics are edited out. Also this is leading off
the album when in most of their live shows this is the last song of the
regular set
2. Jungle Love-same as the version used in Jay and silent bob, nice, but too
short. We miss all that cool ass stuff that Tori usually does on the end
3. Gigolos get lonely too- too short. Now I'm glad its not the 20 minute
version they were doing in 96-97, but it stops right when Morris is about to
break it down
4. Cool- usually a 10 minute jam, this goes on for 6:20. Again solid, but
right when I'm really getting into it, it fades out. Morris says 2005
cadillac. I'm not sure if this is from a different performance or if that
line was just dubbed in. It does sound slightly different. Jungle love is
from 2001 and I assume the rest is from that show, but due to a lack of
notes i can't be sure
5. Ice Cream Castles-This is probably my least favorite live Time song ever.
It was Cool the first time they did it, but I wish they would just take this
one out of the setlist. That being said, this is an excellent version
6. Get it Up/777- probably the highlight of the Live portion for me. I never
appreciated Get it up until I saw them open with it. Great tune. 777-93111
is probably my favorite Time song and they always rip it up live.
Unfortunatily its edited for length cutting short Tori's excellent guitar
work
7. Girl- I absolutetly love this song. I really like how on the end of it
live they always jam on it, really turning it into another song. Again
unfortunatily this is cut short
8. Fishnet- probably the best Morris solo song and the only old one on this
set.again edited, missing the begining

The performances are great and the actual recording is good. I have 3 main
beefs. The show is out of order and its edited for language and length.
Really no reason to do this since the cd is 48 minutes long and they could
have atleast played the complete versions of these songs and probably added
a few more.

The new stuff. At first I was pretty unimpressed, but as I played them over
and over they have grown on me. I actually find myself playing them more
than the live material

9. Ain't a Damn thing Changed- Jerome break out the yaught, references to
Stacy Adams and the Walk and the laugh. Yeah we know, Morris is still a
pimp. Nothing extradinary, but a fun song. Sounds like something from
Corporate World
10. In my ride- Rappers do not need to work with Prince or anybody
associated with him. Morris is singing in a rap style that doesn't suit him.
Oh Lawd, Bring me a mirror and a shout to the fellas Almost redeem it, but
not quite. Sounds like something from Guarated
11 Two Drink Minimum- easily the best new song reminds me of something that
could be on Pandemonium. I really like this one, nothing fancy, but a nice
song
12. Last night- I can't make up my mind on this one. The instrumentation
reminds me of Justify my Love which Is actually good for Madonna. I can't
stand the chicks back up vocal though, it just anoys the shit out of me.
Nice guitar though

If you don't have any live recording of the Time I would definetly recommend
this. If you do, you know whats missing from this show

The new material does not measure up to Time material, but if you like
Morris solo stuff then its comprable with it
