Our newbies and teen purple hippies weren't around when Taja Sevelle was workin with our little romeo, so I'd give them a refresher course. She was one of Prince's protege's, but only for a very short time. She did fun, poppy, dance music, for the most part. Oddly, her song, Fountains Free was the best, even though Prince didn't write it, except the guitar riff sounds exactly like our Prince. Doubtful. She went away, as do all the dames P fucks or has a hard on for. She did have a few good songs, and the only reason I mention her is because all of her early albums have been out of print for years.

Song 8 is written by Prince, song 12 sounds like Prince but was not.

Loved this album, one of the best voices he worked with in the eighties. Her higher register was killer.

Few things to add: "Love is Contagious" was a much bigger hit in the UK/Europe than in the US from what I remember, and you can hear Badly Drawn Boy singing the chorus at the end of his (also beautiful) "Magic in the Air" which came out many years later.

And Taja is also credited with backing vocals on Around the World in a Day (as "Taj").

She had a sort of comeback attempt album (no Prince) several years back with a strong single ("I & I") but not much result.

Toys of Vanity is a really good album. In 1997 she received critical acclaim for this cd. The shame was that radio could not "label" her music so she received no air play.Typical for radio. In 1999 she released another cd containing songs from her upcoming cd, Fire. This cd was never released. If anyone is interesed check them out. Listen to her lyrics. Taja is really good and underrated.Thank you.

Sans "Love is Contagious", the best 2 cuts on the album are "How Could You Do Me So Bad?" and "Baby's Got a Lover" - "HCYTMSB" has a killer change in it that ya gotta love and the backing vox are great and very pretty, and "BGAL" - that's when you REALLY here her HIGHS! I love that album - STILL!
