Wendy, Lisa, Questlove, Susannah and Erykah Badu...jammin' I guess these guys have been jammin' together a lot lately. Erykah and Quest both talk about this group in their blogs on myspace and there have been some posts about it on okayplayer. I'd loveeeee to hear whatever they are putting together. I know doyle has a pic with him and Erykah on his myspace page as well. So "prince's girls" (I say with sarcasm cuz they are more than that) are making some funky music

I WENT!!!!!
the show was OFF the CHAIN ohmigod soo much talent in one place was mind blowing. the show started with a local Austin band, can't remember thier name. They were good the bass player was a girl who was FANTASTIC, she was so great, she was the sister to the lead singer in the band, they were rock reminded me of maybe Coldplay? next came this trio a man on an harp and his wife on violin and the same bass player on bass they were call ed Correo Aero, new wavish latin jazz, incredible! Next was Doyle Bramhall 2---GREAT Blues guitar!!!! I just stood there and made the blues face!!! he was fanstastic reminded me of Stevie Ray! THEN ERYKAH comes out with Doyle, Susannah, James Poyser-organ, ?uestlove Mike Elizondo and LISA AND WENDY!!!!! this group of musicians, ARTISTs they were just sooo sooo sooo TITE!!! it was mind blowing totally mind blowing to see that much talent on one stage [Edited 3/13/06 6:34am] [Edited 3/13/06 6:35am] We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Erykah started with Green Eyes, and it only got better from there. she was beautiful, the vibe was FONKAY, these people GOTT OFF.
standing there watching them play, interact, laugh, sing and just enjoy each other was just wonderful. This group Funksway is incredible. I witnessed history last night for real. then JazzyJeff spinned for an hour and we all just danced we didn't even watch him, ?west came up and stood with him and conducted us as we sang to the songs he was spinin, wow... BUT the BEST moment was after the show [Edited 3/13/06 6:48am] We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. after it was all over me and my daughter went outside and stood around on the side of the buiding. no real crowd out there, we were just standing there when Wendy and Lisa came out of the building.
ok I gotta admit I went STRAIGHT GROUPIE!!! I sarted yelling hey Wendy can I get a guitar pick and she started smiling walking toward us then my daughter says I love you Wendy oh I love you I grew up listening to you--from the womb...and Lisa smiled and they came RIGHT OVER TO US!!! I told them that I was soo glad to see them that I had been trying to see them for 20 years. Lisa said NO WAY, I told her that I saw everyshow in the bay area from 80-86, I felt like I knew her and Wendy was standing there smiling, my daughter said she remembered hearing Waterfalls when she was 2 and they stood there and smiled and were like no way 20 years and I said OH yeah then Lisa reached out and gave me a hug, she said thank you and then Wendy hugged me too!! I told them that my daughter had paid my way to the show because I had spent all my money in Houston last weekend I told Lisa oh yeah and my name is Lisa too! she grinned and said how about that! While they were hugging me I started getting emotional and Wendy rubbed my back and said oh honey it's ok, we appreciate you soooo much.
OK (deep breath) They were so gracious and kind, they made me feel so great. 20 years of supporting these artists and they recognized and told me they appreciated it. wow. they talked to a bunch of us and then just walked down the street to their waiting car. I have been to a lot of shows. I've seen W&L play. I've seen Erykah. I've seen Doyle.
And I am telling you - I have never before seen a concert like this in my life. I still don't have words for it.

Ok like what? clothing, Erykah was in a lime green slip dress with purple fish nets and high heeled sandals. Wendy was in white, shirt pants scarf around her neck, Lisa was in black or blue pants with a shimery silver and black shirt, susannah was in a black shirtdress with black leggings and black sandals-heels. ask away, hurry before I forget--DAMN I am soooo sleepy! Erykah opened with Green eyes, went into on and on, wow I sang with her but I really don't remember
there was this one song Annie don't wear no panties it was cool call and response bluesy number...we all would sing annie don't wear no panties over and over and then erykah would break it down and add a little twist like annie sitting on the first pew giving decon johnson nem a good view...
