No one has mentioned this yet...or maybe (gasp) yall never noticed it...
Go back and listen to this one whilst headphones are sungly attached to your head. Listen real close at the beginning. REAL CLOSE. You can hear a woman saying that intro bit and then him repeating it as if she's telling him what to say. You can hear it most clearly when she says "funk 'n habit formed leather wearin'..." Now what I wanna know...who was THAT? [Edited 3/14/06 18:01pm]

My question is this:
Was Prince playing bass AND keyboard "hoens" at THE SAME TIME? Or did they record the bass and keys on separate tracks? THe bass doesn't drop out during the synth horns so how could he keep it going? By palying the bass just with the left hand on the frets? IS that possible? I think St. Paul does it on his recent DVD for a little bit, but that seems really hard to do.

Just like folks on here, Paligap, MinnieG, Funk Mistress and others, haven't heard the session with me playing lead guitar on the Morris song "Skirt" that Andre engineered at his loft. That's what I was wondering..... if he overdubbed the keys later, or tried to play the keys with one hand while doign the frets on the bass with his left. I only played bass for a few months (still need to get mine restrung and try again), but I dind't know if it was possible to do what I just said. I got ST. Paul's new DVD and when he's doing Junle Love he's playing bass, and sometimes he took is right hand off the strings to gesture etc. but kept the bass line going by just using his left hand on the fret board. I don't know how to make that work since I was just beingging to play.

That's when u get a natural vibrato going. That's what Paul is doing. Many guitarists do it as well. It's really easy to do when your sound is set on distortion. U can play certain runs on a guitar without even picking if your vibrato and pull-offs are on. Just keep playing, and over time, you'll develop it. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Believe it, H! Dig player, P's doing "the voice" on Vanity6's "If A Girl Answers". Listen to that, then listen to Grace. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I heard from Brownmark's 3rd cousin, twice removed, that Prince is actually the one going off screaming about fur coats and jeww-ww-wlry at the end of Sheila E's "Toy Box"!

U know what H? Not making excuses, but when I read your post about the Grace single, in my brain, I was thinking Tricky. Cuz that's what this thread was o.g. about, right? I was thinking, "Damn, why is homeboy thinking P's not on Tricky?" All the while your ass was talking about Grace and shit. No, P is NOT on Grace. I never would have asked u to go back and listen to Grace. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

blackguitaristz said: I know for a FACT that it's about Bootsy. And like u said, it's HELLA obvious in the lyrics. P ADORES Bootsy, that's why he did it. It's P on lead vocal, imitating Morris. Morris is on drums. P did the same thing earlier on another even better b-side, "Grace". He does the Morris voice also on Vanity 6's "If A Girl Answers".
Uhm, dun wanna B no smart ass, but who's post is this?

Uhm, dun wanna B no smart ass, but who's post is this? Nah, it's a valid question. It's my post. This is the thing with Grace for me. I've ALWAYS linked Grace to P. When I found out that P did the voice on If A Girl Answers, then I thought "Well, hell. That's P on Grace too! For him to do it on a later track like Tricky, and then to have Morris tell me that P did the voice on Tricky... mentally, I always include Grace with the others.
