Funk Shui...(Wendy,Susannah,?uestlove)?!

I got this from a reviewer who went to the Roots jam party this week. Sounds interesting:

"then funk shui, a band consistin' of erykah, wendy and her twin, mike elizondo, james and quest and some mohawk dude rocked the house for a minute..."

Hmmmm....Wendy (guitar), Mike Eliz. (bass), ?uest(drums), James Poyser(keys),Erykah & Susannah (vocals).

."

Erykah's Myspace page

& from more Questlove's blog, another recap from board member "Boombastic"

"-Funk Shway featuring Doyle Bramhall II (of SRV, Fiona, mad other people fame), Wendy (of the Revolution), Susannah Melvoin (The Family), Mike Elizado (Dre's bassist), James Poyser, Quest, and Miss Erykah Badu aka "Lowdown" Lorretta Brown. These guys took a moment to get things moving but they eventually took off. Doyle is a sick guitarist and once Badu took the lead vocally she did her thing (and she remains one of the most beautifull female artists I've ever laid eyes on in person). That "Annie Don't Wear No Panties" joint at the end of their mini-set was mind-bending."

Okayplar message board-re... night Jam

"...Erykah Badu is my hero. She took it upon herself to help us gather up some of America's best musicians to perform on our soundtrack. Soon to be released on her Control Freaq label, the soundtrack features a diverse group of musicians from many genre's.

Returning from L.A.~~I was witness to a "super group" creating originals for our soundtrack. What a soundtrack it is. In my opinion, it very well might be the best this year.

?

The photo above, shot last night, was taken in the middle of the incredible session that was lead by Doyle Bramhall 2 on vocals and guitar, Erykah joining Doyle on vocals. Questlove (of The Roots) on drums, Wendy and Lisa (yep, from Prince's Revolution) were on guitar and keyboards, Mike Elizando on Bass and several others joining in to create original music on the spot. They all came together as a result of this film. I have only fond memories of each moment watching these pro's at work. These musicians really brought the best American music back! And it can all be found on our upcoming soundtrack....I'll never forget those nights in the studio!

Also appearing on the soundtrack along with the group above....
Bonnie Riatt
Branford Marsalis
Dave Mathews Band
The Roots
North Mississippi All Stars
Calexico
Blaze
Correo Aereo
Sa Ra
and eventually (we hope)....Stevie Wonder.

We are just about done with the film....it's just a matter of days/hours...

Please join us at the premier March 12th at The Paramount Theater (SXSW Film Festival) and the all star after party at Antones!

Thanks again for your support. More updates coming soon such as our NPR appearance (very soon!)~

So our girls are coming back to the big screen, & in not 1 but perhaps 2(?) interesting band configurations (according to Tamar/Prince drummer Cora Coleman...see the P/Brit awards post for more info)...

Hmmm methinks Mr. Nelson should have an opening act on the 3121 tour.
All those in favor of "FunkSway" as the opening act (with a couple of great girls pulling Madhouse duty wink ) Say AAAHHHOWWOAH!

love me some ?uestlove, Mike Elizondo, and Erykah Badu especially. Erykah looked so cool with holding her chin. I do missed 1997 and she was ruling that year with On and On and Tyrone. I especially missed that scarf she used to wear. And ?uestlove is funny and love him especially when he play for the Roots. And Mike is a badass bass player and I love hearing his influence.

can't wait to see the documentary.

They would be a great opening act. I just love Prince and he always keeps us guessing.
