Mazarati?

Who are they and what did they sound like? I know there's a prince reference with them but what's the connection?

Mazarati was signed to Paisley Park and released one self-titled album in 1986. There were a couple of singles released, Player's Ball (there's a video on the internet somewhere i just saw like last month) and 100 MPH written by Prince.

They did one small club tour in 86 which led to one of the most bootlegged Prince concerts in history. They played a show in Detroit at St Andrew's Hall and KILLED. They ended up doing like 4 encores. Unbeknownest to most, Prince himself was upstairs checking out the whole thing, and he had such a good time he decided that he wanted to celebrate his birthday a week later by doing a show in Detroit. Yep, the 1986 Parade birthday show from Cobo Hall.

The personnel for the group was listed as -

Sir Casey Terry - Lead Vocals
Kevin Patricks "Blondie" - Drums, Percussion
Tony Christian - Rhythm Guitar, Keyboards, Background Vocals
Mark Starr - Keyboards, Background Vocals
Craig "Screamer" Powell - Lead Guitar, Background Vocals
Aaron Paul Keith - Keyboards, Background Vocals
Romeo - Bass Guitar, Background Vocals

The album kicked ass, and is extremely hard to find on cd as it's only a Japanese import (ala Apollonia 6 or the Family). And if anyone can find a copy of the 45 with the unreleased b-side "Champagne Saturday" i'll send cash! The album was produced by Brown Mark and co-produced by David Z.

Tracklisting -

Player's Ball
Lonely Girl on Bourbon Street
100 MPH
She's Just That Kind Of Lady
Stroke
Suzy
Strawberry Lover
I Guess It's All Over
