a rather boring album

Although I like the album,I have a few problems with it.The lyrics are atrocious and Vanity spends most of the album squealing and moaning. Her vocals are intolerable on a few tracks, especially "Crazy Maybe".I also think this album is uneven. She needed a few more strong funky tracks. The Vanity 6 album is superior.

Thanks for posting the lyrics. I don't know why I have such difficulty understanding what she's saying. The lyrics are stronger than I guessed coming from vanity!

The best song on her album is "Mechanical Emotion" with Morris Day.That song is funky as hell! Her album needed more strong songs like this.

Yep,that's Morris Day singing along with her. This track is superb...a nice slice of Minneapolis-styled funk. That bassline is hot! A very sexy track, even though Vanity's vocals are somewhat eerie lol

i really do love this album. i think it's uneven, but in style, not in quality. i think Vanity's vocal ability is perfectly suited for what she was trying to do. in the spirit of Prince, i think she tried to make an album that was pop, rock and r&b. Prince, at that time, had a great knack for blending styles to make great pop albums. Vanity and her producers seemed to just put a series of songs together in hopes they would gel. Well, they really didn't. And I don't think Motown knew what to do with her. The lyrics are off-the-wall goofy, but I love them! It's a great peak into Vanity's world, and something that few other pop performers were doing then.

This was a very good album, I loved (love) it. I really love Vanity's voice, she's has a magnificant vamp and powty little girl voice. As far as V6 vs A6 (the albums), I think Apples is the winner. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. CHRISTAN, SEX SHOOTER, BLUE LIMOSINE, A MILLION MILES (I LOVE U), OOH SHE SHE WA WA, IN A SPANISH VILLA, SOME KIND OF LOVER vs NASTY GIRL, WET DREAM, HE'S SO DULL, DRIVE ME WILD, 3X2=6, IF A GIRL ANSWERS, MAKE UP, BITE THE BEAT. Although V6 has more but A6 is a little more stronger (V6's exceptions are NASTY GIRL & DRIVE ME WILD (remix)). But as a solo artist Vanity was stronger than Apples.

After this album flopped,Motown decided to take charge and closely supervise the next album. For the follow-up 'Skin On Skin',they picked many of the songs and paired Vanity with some commercial songwriters. This is why 'Skin On Skin' is a glossier, more commercial-sounding album than 'Wild Animal'.Notice that her vocals are better too.On songs like the first single "Under The Influence",her vocals are more subtle and buried in the mix. This was intentional.

Love this album too. I am dying to hear Apollonia 6, I have a feeling I would love it since I love all those Prince chicks and the 80's in general.

"Flippin' Out"

(written by Vanity)

Why don't you come into my vampire boudoir
state your delight, the rest gets bizarre
Touch me here,touch me there
Ooh when you touch,I let go of my wheel
You're that someone who drives me insane
as if something got stuck in my vain
when you touch me,I scream in delight
hurry,hurry,touch me tonight

I'm flippin' out, yah!I'm flippin' out,ow ow ow out ooh

Ha ha,you can swallow me all in one bite
creme de la cocoa is what I taste like
bite me here,swallow me there
I could follow and die without fear
You're that someone who drives me insane
kiss my neck with your sharp fangs and stay
if you kiss me,I'll scream in delight
hurry,hurry,tie me tight

I'm flippin' out, owhoo
ooh yeah,hoo hoo! ha ha

you're that someone who drives me insane
you are that man so in touch with my vain
if you catch me,I'll sleep in delight
hurry,hurry,catch me tonight

I'm flippin' out
I'm flippin' out

Why don't you come back to vampire boudoir
I am the vamp who bites the vampire
vamp me here,vamp me there
if you love me,I'll swallow your spear
you're that vampire who drives me insane
like that sharp fang that sucked on my vain
when you bite me,I scream in delight
hurry,hurry,bite me right

I'm flippin out,hoo hoo ha ha,hoo ya
I'm flippin' out,I'm flippin' out

(spoken)
Vamp...short for Vanity
a woman who uses her charms and wiles to seduce
Vampish...Vanity! I am Vamp
a woman who practices seductiveness by magic spell

A fool there was,and you played your coin
to a dark-eyed dame from the tender loin
you took me in the West Coast town
and dressed me up in a form fit gown
filled my eyes with bella donna
and said now lady "forget your honor"
for henceforth now you're a scarlet vamp
the grandest red-lipped black souled vamp
So now I lie awake in my tomb
awaiting the next "kiss me my fool"

"Mechanical Emotion" featuring Morris Day

(written by Vanity)

I'm livin' through this surely yes,I do declare
when it gets to the heavy,I'll be dancing
all of a sudden,you appear
insatiable emotion in my mirror,hey!

(chorus #1)
You appear insatiable emotion
(your choreography has imagination)
baby,your poetry and motion
Ooh,you know I'm the best
(who might you be,what's your name?)
The Greatest!

You want to watch my thunderstorm
ya gotta see my poppin' corn
I participate,end of story
All of a sudden,you delay
numerical emotion in my middle,hey!

(chorus #2)
You delay my numerical emotion
baby don't count on devotion
Girl,let's give a rest
I gave more,you gave less

you're anything but ordinary
and I'm getting your attention hard
your body's shooting X-ray bullets
fire away,I'm unarmed
and all of a sudden, you push replay (replay)
mechanical emotions in my middle,hey!

(chorus #3)
You display mechanical emotion
(ahh you're in my symphony)
baby,in my orchestration
Oh,you keep me a wreck
(Fine! Why? Why? why? I love you anyway)
Baby,I'm sick of this mess

(spoken French part)

(solo chorus by Morris)

You display mechanical emotion
baby,in my orhcestration
oh,you keep me a wreck
baby,I'm sick of this mess

You display mechanical emotion
baby,in my orchestration
oh,you keep me a wreck
baby,I'm sick of this mess
