Another Article: http://today.reuters.com/...NCE-DC.XML By Dean Goodman LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rock 'n' roll iconoclast Prince, who spent years clashing with the music establishment, has signed a recording deal with the world's largest record company, proudly noting on Tuesday that he wrote up his own agreement without legal advice. Universal Music Group will release his next album, "3121," sometime next year through its Universal Records imprint, the parties said. A videoclip for the first single, the Latin-soaked ballad "Te Amo Corazon" (I love you, sweetheart), was released Tuesday, and shown to journalists at a news conference in a Beverly Hills hotel room. Prince, 47, showed up briefly, accompanied by Argentine actress Mia Maestro, who stars in the clip. His last album, 2004's "Musicology," was distributed by Sony BMG Music's Columbia Records label, and given away free to fans who attended his comeback tour that year. Most of his albums, beginning with his 1978 debut "For You," were released by Warner Bros. Records, and the partnership produced such groundbreaking works as 1984's "Purple Rain" and 1987's "Sign O' The Times." But Prince fell out with the label by the early 1990s, complaining that it could not accommodate his prolific output. He performed with the word "SLAVE" scrawled across his cheek, and his career waned as he went to such bizarre lengths as changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol. After splitting with Warner Bros. in 1996, he went the independent route, and distributed some albums through his Web site, selling a fraction of what he did during his heyday. His deal with Universal covers one album only, he said at the news conference. He declined to discuss the financial terms other than to say, "They're great." He said it was "basically a handshake deal" since he does not believe in contracts. "I did my own agreement without the help of a lawyer and sat down and got exactly what I wanted," he said, subsequently clarifying that some agreements were signed "to ensure that business gets accomplished." A statement announcing the Universal deal said Prince would return to the road next year. He declined to offer any specifics about the tour or the album, but said the new single was not indicative of the album's overall sound. Reuters/VNU

Reuters/VNU I never said that Prince didn't broker this deal without Londell, I responded to the fact that Prince didn't "divorce" Londell. Again I'm stating what I know. I don't know the specifics of his deal with Universal and how it came to pass, I don't know the status of his marriage, what I DO know is that Londell and Prince have a friendship/business relationship that's still in tack. Again, the only reason that I responded is because I don't want lies/half truths spread about my people. I'm sure you wouldn't want the same.

manuela attends fashion show, without prince , this spring in canada
it was this adorable fellow who commanded the most mature show at Toronto Fashion Week last September, drawing coveted names to see his spring 2005 line at the Liberty Grand. Seated in the front row were Canadian actress Sandra Oh (seen lately in husband Alexander Payne’s movie Sideways), the blond socialite Lynda Prince (wife of real estate magnate Jonas Prince, contributing the first-ever society presence at a Mendonça show) and Manuela Testolini, the Torontonian who is married to the rock star Prince. Not incidentally, Alfred Sung was there, too, nodding his approval, recognizing perhaps in the young Mendonça a kindred spirit—a designer simultaneously marketable and driven.

On this visit to Paisley Park, Manny (as Prince refers to her) serves her husband, a long-time vegetarian, and their guest roasted pepper soup she made that morning. ("I've been roasting peppers all day," she says.) He agrees that the soup, heavy with garlic and other healing spices, is delicious. In the dining area of the studio, Manny shows their guest a sampling of the home products, including fragrant and beautifully packaged incense, they plan to market under the NPG Home brand. Later, when Prince gives a tour, he points out more of Manny's tasteful decorative art.

tinetime said: Dyvinity said: When Prince inked one-off deals with Arista (in 1999) and Columbia Records (in 2003), many were surprised to see him working with major labels, since the singer spent many months during the '90s embroiled in a drawn-out battle with his former label, Warner Bros., over issues of control with his music. While the musician remains wary of entanglements with major companies, the Columbia partnership (which resulted in the Grammy-winning Musicology) proved fruitful enough for him to do it again — except this time he's entered into a similar arrangement with Universal Records to release his forthcoming album, dubbed 3121, in early 2006. "It wasn't a contract. I don't believe in contracts. It's basically a handshake deal, but we do sign some agreements to ensure business gets accomplished," he said. "Ultimately, I got a chance to structure [the deal] the way I saw fit, as opposed to it being the other way around, and I got exactly what I wanted to accomplish." Prince made those comments in Los Angeles on Tuesday during a press conference to premiere the video for his first single from the new album, the Salma Hayek-directed "Te Amo Corazón," (which translates as "I Love You, Sweetheart"). The singer, who became so passionate during his conflict with Warner Bros. that for a time he wrote the word "slave" on his face, came to the agreement with Universal without the aid of lawyer, and urged other artists to take similar control by reading and understanding the fine print themselves. Prince remained elusive on specific details of the deal — and did not explain the significance of his new album's unusual title — but added, "I've been independent for a long time, so to do any sort of agreement with a record company at this point would have to be in my best interest." As usual, Prince wrote, produced and arranged "Te Amo Corazón," a sultry ballad that evidently celebrates the love he has for the special woman in his life. While the artist formerly known as the Artist would not disclose his inspiration for the track ("I leave that up to the individual that listens to it — it spoils it otherwise," he said), he noted that the single is not indicative of the album's sound. The video — directed by Hayek and co-starring "Motorcycle Diaries" actress Mía Maestro as Prince's love interest — was filmed in the exotic setting of Marrakesh, Morocco. The opening of the clip shows the singer standing in front of a huge window with sunshine cascading down upon him, followed by clips of Maestro and Prince walking separately around an airy, open Spanish-style home. Later, Prince is seen struming his trademark purple guitar in bed, surrounded by satin sheets and rose petals. Prince called Hayek, who drafted the original treatment for the video, "the most thoughtful, attentive director I have ever worked with." The clip, which debuted on VH1 on Wednesday, is now available for download at NPG Music Club (see "Prince Offers Fans Exclusive Material Via Online Club"). Meanwhile, Prince also announced a tour is in the works, and it looks like you can expect to see some familiar faces on the road. "I don't want to talk about it [much] because I'm inviting some of my old friends to join us," he said. "You'll hear about it. [Edited 12/19/05 20:06pm] Londell isn't just his lawyer, he's also his business partner. Trust me, he didn't "divorce" Londell just because he structured his own deal. Of course Prince can structure his own deals. After being in the business for as long as he has, I'm sure it's not hard. And I am sure, the "deals" contract .. he makes are pretty much, 'to the point'. . [Edited 12/21/05 4:38am]

I don't know that anyone has actually looked for their marriage license. I know i'm not going to bother to!
