The Girls?

Anybody remember THE GIRLS? They were a girl group produced by Andre Cymone. I was in love with their album cover as a kid but never actually heard any of their music. The cover featured them changing clothes in a locker room. I always regretted not buying the album because I've never seen it again. Anybody out there ever hear it? How was it? Oh and Jill Jones debut album was seriously good! Why it wasn't a hit is beyond me...

I remember them. I was at First Avenue when they had their debut party. Their album was pretty good.It has Andre's New Wave Soul all over it.

Is that in reference to the vocals or the music? Vanity was sexy as hell. But vocally, she was no Patti Labelle or Joss Stone. If THE GIRLS were worse than that, maybe it's best that I didn't hear the cd. Anybody remember Pretty Mess? confused

I'm with you on that one. Vanity oozed sex appeal. Even though she's an evangelist now, I still want to "lay hands" on her and start "freaking" in tongues!

It's a great album. It's a cross between new wave and funk. Similar to Andre's first album but a little more on the funk side.

Some of my favorites are:

S-E-S-E-X
Don't Waste My Time
Girl Talk
Andy is a four letter word.

And just like Cymone's Surviving in the 80's, I'm sure THE GIRLS Album is no longer available, right? Damn...

Never expressed a preference for one over the other. But obviously I like Patti better. Patti is for listening and Stone is for looking...

So who were THE GIRLS? What were their individual names? And where are they now? Does anybody know? For that matter, where the hell is Cymone?

I never heard their music, but I do recall an interview they did for Rock N Soul magazine in 1984.They seemed really bitter/jealous of Apollonia 6,using the interview to talk shit about them...

"Unlike Vanity...I mean,Apollonia 6....we can sing. And although we sing about sexual topics too,we do it with more class than they do"

eek it's too bad their album and single bombed

Those were the Good Girls. Shireen was very Vanity-esque.

With the dearth of good music out there today, I always thought someone could cover many of the lesser known Minneapolis sound songs and make a killing. I haven't heard the GIRLS cd, but knowing Cymone it had to have some jam on it.

I always liked the track "Nu Boy". It was more new wave sounding.
