Funny that you feel that Are You my Baby? is a funky track, you do realize that's Wendy on bass right?? Your knowledge on the Wendy subject gets driven home by "Wendy is goot at doing rock solos" because that is simply not true. Don't believe me? Ask her and she'll tell you the same, she's not comfortable soloing. Player's Ball???? It's a cool track but that's not my definition of funky. Funk never makes me want to put on my pearls and jump up and down like Player's Ball does. omfg: I didnt know that Wendy played bass on "Are You my baby" Seriously Wonder U I dont think it takes a rock scientist to figure out who plays who on Lisa and Wendy's albums and it sure hell wasn't Lisa playing bass and I do digged Lisa more than Wendy but even Lisa doesnt know too much on funk. I am not going to repeat myself nor change my mind of where I stand on Wendy so reread my past posts. So Prince knowledge of funk carries more than me why because he's Prince or he's older than I? It just like saying Prince's JW is valid because...well he's Prince. Saying Prince's knowledge on funk more than me is subjective not a fact. Hell I know some funk lovers who are the same age as Prince or even older questioned Prince's funkiness especially on his first five albums because Prince mixture his genre with rock and some pop and disco. But Prince proven them wrong when they found out later on that it was Prince who done most of the Time's albums which shows Prince's true funk at it's best. They wondered why Prince's albums werent like the Times and it was because Prince didnt want to be pigholed of being know as an R&B and funk artist at the time he was hungry for a crossover. I maybe younger but dont underestimated the child of 70's funk lovers who listened and then exposed me to groups and artists like Mass Construction, Brick, Fatback, Donald Byrd, Bill Summers why Prince was into Sly and Joni Mitchell I dont know what is your definition of funk but from the funk lovers who also like Barkays, Pleasure, and Dazz Band (no I am not talking about the ones that likes the mainstream songs only) they concluded that Player's Ball is a funky track even though Mazarati's outfits were wack and it turn off some people. However George Clinton and Parliment and so where other funk bands wore better outrageous outfits but that doesn't stop them from being like by many funk lovers, so I think that bad outfits is irrevelent of being funky. You can drop all kinds of funk group names mainstream or not and that means nothing to me or doesn't validate any of your comments. So you and your funk loving friends like Players Ball, what does that exactly mean anyway? No one outside of your circle really cares what your knowledge of funk is anyway. Outrageos outfits is one thing, looking like a bunch of drag queens that spent an hour in their mother's closets is another. And yes your age does play a part in this because would you have rather have seen those acts live like some of us or just have heard the music? I have ticket stubs from George Clinton, Gap Band, and the Barkays older than you. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Hell, where's Prince's "Bang Bang" for that matter? Wendy was decent but funkier than Mark Brown is some BULLSHIT. I've heard all of W&L's solo records minus the last one and the only thing that even slightly comes close to Brown Mark funky is "Are You My Baby". Wendy wasn't all that funky. Brown Mark was funky. All you have to do to know that is check the Mazarati tracks. That's Mark on mostly everything. Wendy's talented but she's nowhere close to being on the level of funk that Mark Brown is. Damn the hype from Prince , Miko, Wendy's momma or whoever else. I trust my ears. My ears say "decent".
OMG, you actually use BANG BANG as your example??? Now that's worthy of a BBBBBWWWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. God at least name one of the tracks on the FIRST album. I just seen Wendy stank up the stage doing a cover of Sly Stone's "Let me Have it All" and even Prince's face got twisted. And I have all of the Mazarati tracks including the Saga of a Man tracks and it's paint by number funk ANYway. Funkiest track on Mazarati is 100mph and that's a Prince song. The live Purple Rain tour version of Irrisitible Bitch" is proof to me that she can stand next to Mark on the funk. Your interpretation of what funk is has less to be desired than a stack of , fambot. As the story goes the arrangements for majority of the songs on the PR tour were kept simple because W&L and Z could strectch. The only tune that was stretched(jammmed)on was "baby I'm a star". Reports stated Fink and BMarx were the only ones that could stretch.
Looking at what the bands after the Revolution did with arrangements and tunes both sources make a strong agrument. I really can't see W,L and Z doin' after show gigs jamming on "skin tight", "Soul Sacrifice,Irrestible Bitch, etc. They were strong in the "rock" vein of tunes. But beyond that....they may have had problems. Check out the PR tour live then.... They "stretched" out Take ME With You..... Did a James Brown tribute in Irresistible Bitch/Possessed.... etc. Plus P has said no one plays rhythm guitar like Wendy. So that soudns like a lot of BS. The Musicology Tour in contrast sounded rehearsed and arranged to a T ----- The Musicology Tour was kick ass compared to the Revolution days. In fact the Sign of the Times bans is better than the Revolution. The Time was kicking the Revolution's ass. You guys can't get off of the W&L worship.

Not to say Wendy can't be funky, she can! But she ain't funkier than Mark. p.s "she's just that kinda lady" is probably the funkiest shit on the mazarati cd |

I'm not taking any sides here, but just want to remark that I think it's kind of funny that people are arguing, cuz aren't Wendy and Mark pretty good friends (they seemed like it at the Family Jamm) and while I don't know them, I would bet they would find it funny to see everyone arguing about "who is funkier!"
I would also guesss that they would both probably say Mark is "funkier" but Wendy is a more ersatile or well-rounded player (meaning she plays a lot more styles rather than being an expert in one). Anyway, back to your disucssion

Also what does their friendship, if they have one, have anything to do with us fans deciding who's funkier???

I just meant that Wendy has branched out into pretty diverse types of music, doing film and TV scores which are very different from pop music in general (pop, funk, R&B etc.). IN fact that's what she seems to be focused on now. Anyway, my point was just that people on here are getting to the point of cursing each other out over "who's better" when I bet you the people being argued about would be like "this is crazy!". Just an observation. Feel free to continue
