Saying Prince's knowledge on funk more than me is subjective not a fact. Hell I know some funk lovers who are the same age as Prince or even older questioned Prince's funkiness especially on his first five albums because Prince mixture his genre with rock and some pop and disco. But Prince proven them wrong when they found out later on that it was Prince who done most of the Time's albums which shows Prince's true funk at it's best. They wondered why Prince's albums werent like the Times and it was because Prince didnt want to be pigholed of being know as an R&B and funk artist at the time he was hungry for a crossover. I maybe younger but dont underestimated the child of 70's funk lovers who listened and then exposed me to groups and artists like Mass Construction, Brick, Fatback, Donald Byrd, Bill Summers why Prince was into Sly and Joni Mitchell
I dont know what is your definition of funk but from the funk lovers who also like Barkays, Pleasure, and Dazz Band (no I am not talking about the ones that likes the mainstream songs only) they concluded that Player's Ball is a funky track even though Mazarati's outfits were wack and it turn off some people. However George Clinton and Parliment and so where other funk bands wore better outrageous outfits but that doesn't stop them from being like by many funk lovers, so I think that bad outfits is irrevelent of being funky. You can drop all kinds of funk group names mainstream or not and that means nothing to me or doesn't validate any of your comments. So you and your funk loving friends like Players Ball, what does that exactly mean anyway? No one outside of your circle really cares what your knowledge of funk is anyway. Outrageos outfits is one thing, looking like a bunch of drag queens that spent an hour in their mother's closets is another. But beyond that....they may have had problems. Check out the PR tour live then.... They "stretched" out Take ME With You..... Did a James Brown tribute in Irresistible Bitch/Possessed.... etc. Plus P has said no one plays rhythm guitar like Wendy. So that soudns like a lot of BS. The Musicology Tour in contrast sounded rehearsed and arranged to a T ----- The Musicology Tour was kick ass compared to the Revolution days. In fact the Sign of the Times bans is better than the Revolution. The Time was kicking the Revolution's ass. You guys can't get off of the W&L worship. | |

Damn, people chill the fuck out yo!! I'm also a hardcore funk fan - and I gotta agree that BrownMark has the edge over Wendy, even if just for the Mazarati album alone. That's gotta be one of my favorite 80's funk albums.

I'm not taking any sides here, but just want to remark that I think it's kind of funny that people are arguing, cuz aren't Wendy and Mark pretty good friends (they seemed like it at the Family Jamm) and while I don't know them, I would bet they would find it funny to see everyone arguing about "who is funkier!" 
I would also guesss that they would both probably say Mark is "funkier" but Wendy is a more ersatile or well-rounded player (meaning she plays a lot more styles rather than being an expert in one). Anyway, back to your disucssion |

I would also guesss that they would both probably say Mark is "funkier" but Wendy is a more ersatile or well-rounded player (meaning she plays a lot more styles rather than being an expert in one). Anyway, back to your disucssion I don't think Mark knows only one style either. After all he produced Mazarati which have styles of funk, rock, and pop. I wouldn't think that Mark would have any problem performing other styles of music besides funk. Also his skills wasn't limited. Also what does their friendship, if they have one, have anything to do with us fans deciding who's funkier??? | |

I just meant that Wendy has branched out into pretty diverse types of music, doing film and TV scores which are very different from pop music in general (pop, funk, R&B etc.). IN fact that's what she seems to be focused on now. Anyway, my point was just that people on here are getting to the point of cursing each other out over "who's better" when I bet you the people being argued about would be like "this is crazy!".
