I only remember their dumb song "You're In My SyStem" which was annoyingly repetitive....and I was like "Please you gotta write a song with your band's name in it for people to remember who you are??" smile

You never heard "Don't Disturb This Groove"? That was a big crossover hit. I think "This Is For You" was big on R&B radio also.

i love the system, but not their first album much

Mic murphy had a sort of princely solo album out too

Q.T. Hush were sorry as hell. Jak's songs were better, but man, he bit waaaay too much off of P. Look, his whole album were basically Controversy, 1999 songs pieced together. Like he has a cut called "69", It's "Do Me, Baby" and "Girl" combined. The whole album is like that. "I Go Wild" is soooo like "D.M.S.R.". It's amazing that P didn't go after this cat for plagerism. P would have won.

So you're saying, I didn't miss much. lol Well I was just curious. I remember being a kid in San Francisco and seeing Jak's album and almost buying it. But my instincts told me to do otherwise. Apparently, I made the right decision. Then again, I'm sure those rip-off artists are collector's items now.

Sextonseven, you actually found the album to Lushus. I never even saw that. I just remember her one performance on Soul Train. You people are thorough. biggrin

I remember that Soul Train performance too. She did "More Than You Can Handle" and "The One You Love". But no, I never found her album. The Rockwell one I do have on vinyl, but that Lushus Daim scan is a single from ebay.

Damn I wish I could find Madame X now on CD. I had a crappy tape of it that I can't find now.

I LOVE Me some Klymaxx. I have their stuff on CD now.....

Did y'all see the Bands ReUnited episode with them! It was sad cuz they didn't make up with Cheryl Cooley but it was ncie to see them play live. They could bring it back in the day.

Wish they would reunite for real.
I remember the lead singer for Madame X had a Fish Hook shaped hairdo that was bright orange (YUCK!). I saw the Bands Reunited episode with Klymaxx. You could tell that the rest of the band was very hurt by what Cheryl Cooley did to them (Taking the rights to the band name, songs etc.) Especially Bernadette Cooper. But they were tough back in the day. My favorite song was "Meeting In The Ladies Room".

Not surew hat fish hook hairdo means....but they all had 80's assymetrical 'dos smile. They performed live on Joan Rivers' short-lived late night show and totally rocked it!

Yeah, I've got that video on DVD. There's about five videos on there. Someone on the org said that Rick looked like the lion on "The Wiz" in the "Glow" video. I'm a huge Rick James fan but I've got to agree with that statement. lol

Rick's "Glow" video is a trip, isn't it? A total rip-off of "Purple Rain"!! When Rick was sitting in his dressing room,I expected Jerome Benton to appear, making a silly wisecrack (LOL).

That had to be a difficult concession for Rick to make. We all know about the rivalry between him and Prince. The Glow video is proof postive that Prince won. That's the difference between Prince and James. With Prince, it was never good enough to just jam. The Purple Wonder tried to bring a certain gravitas to his music as well. But I digress.

I remember Lushus' one appearance on Soul Train and the verbal exchange she had with Don Cornelius afterwards. Don gave her a compliment along the lines of wanting to get with her and she kinda laughed in his face. Looked like she was dogging out the hand that fed her.....didn't see her on the show after that.

I like Klymaxx too. That "Men all Paused" was really big in the day. I remember being disappointed when we actally saw the lead vocalist though. With a song like that, you'd expect more of a Vanity look-alike...

No shit! I was sooooo let down by Rick that he would pimp himself out like that. He's going to talk a grip of shit about somebody, then turn right around and bite off of him like that. I was like "What the fuck is Rick doin'?!"

All she had to do is tell O Bryan.

In the 80's, it was rumored that Don Cornelius had a homosexual affair with singer O'Bryan Burnette. O'Bryan was famous for his song JUST A GIGOLO, I'M FREAKY and the updated theme song for Soul Train.

I liked it too. I thought his remake of You And I, though, was better than Stevie Wonders. O'Bryan was a copy cat too. Not the sound of his music, but his showmanship. That jacket he would wear all the time toward the end of his career was an attempt to be like his purple-ness.

Angela Winbush---her 1987 single "Run To Me" sounded alot like 'Erotic City'.She even sings in a Princely falsetto.

Madame X---their 1987 single "I Want Your Body" sounds like a Vanity 6 outtake from 1983.

Angela Winbush is opening up for Morris Day and the Time when I go see them next week.
