1988 - Lovesexy tour.

I saw Sheila perform with her family and Tito Puente at a percussion festival in Sacramento in the late 80's or early 90's. It was at Arco Arena, and there was some problem with the advertising or promotion, so instead of thousands of people, there were only maybe 200 of us. They went on with the show and I was maybe five feet away from her the whole time, which was beautiful. I could see the disappointment on her face from the turnout before the show, but you'd never know it from the performance. The energy level was through the roof! After the show, I caught her aftershow (my first) at a club called Miss Olivia's. My friend and I had to bribe the doorman to get in, since we were not quite 21. Sheila arrived in a limo and smiled at us as she walked in. She was devastating.

My next performance was a few years later at Kimballs East. She performed with the E Train, which included Eric Leeds and Renato Neto. I had a chance to talk a bit with both Eric and Sheila and they were both very friendly. I asked Sheila if she remembered the Sacramento gig and she said she did, and didn't know if she'd come back to Sac to play because of it. I assured her that people loved her in Sac, which made her smile.

I only saw her at the SOTT and the Lovesexy shows, three times in total.
