ETERNITY I read in the forumn that the song "Eternity" was originally intended to be recorded by Vanessa Williams. I question whether or not this is true since this may have been before Vanessa Williams was signed to a label. I ask the Prince authorities for their input.....Thanks!!!
This is from a 1987 Billboard magazine article about Sheena Easton's upcoming album NO SOUND BUT A HEART: The album's lead-off single, just out, is the Prince-penned "Eternity". According to Easton's manager, Harriet Wasserman, "Sheena was looking for one more ballad, so she called him and he came up with the song." A 1987 press release from Sheena Easton's (then) record label, EMI: "Eternity" was written by Prince, who also wrote and co-produced Easton's 1985 song, "Sugar Walls," a Top 10 pop hit and #3 Black smash from her platinum A PRIVATE HEAVEN album. "Eternity" was produced by David Leonard, Prince's former engineer and the engineer on Easton's albums BEST KEPT SECRET and A PRIVATE HEAVEN. "I chose David to produce this because I wanted a new approach, really fresh and different. I didn't wantto go to a producer who's already evolved a very definite style. When you have material from a genius like Prince, you know his material is different to begin with. He writes material such that it would be a shame and a crime to have it treated in a stock manner. So I think it deserved the time and attention and the care and the effort to take the risks we did."

In 1986,George Clinton was planning to produce Vanessa Williams' debut album. He asked his pal Prince for a few songs and Prince submitted two tracks---"Eternity" and "Euphoric Highway".The project was cancelled and Vanessa entered the studio with another producer. Thus,Prince gave "Eternity" to Sheena instead.
