Prince does very well writing & producing Morris because Morris' character is based on a character in Prince's mind. Morris' character is a BIG part of The Time. And maybe Morris has a hard time releasing the character without Prince. Has any1 seen Morris in various TV shows & movies, the character always seems 2b trying 2 hard 2b cool & funny, not quite the character from The Time's CDs, but an exageration. Morris D. Day is the king of Cool and a P.I.M.P.

Do U really think Pandemonium would have done better? Maybe they sould have picked Donald Trump (Black Version) or Sometimes I Get Lonely. I just think if wasn't 4 the rotten remixed video for Chocolate, it would have done better. I think "Pandemonium" (the title track) is a solid jam.As a single,I think it would have done much better than "Chocolate",a silly, gimmicky track that sounded out-of-date in 1990 (in 1982,it probably would have been a smash). "Sometimes I Get Lonely" would have made a great single. It's sorta like a sequel to their 1982 hit "Gigolos Get Lonely Too".

I think "Chocolate" was a poor choice for a single.A better follow-up to "Jerkout" would have been the title track ("Pandemonium") or "It's Your World". I TOTALLY agree. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Everyone who posted on this thread has good valid points. I agree with a lot of them. Overall, Dave hit it on the head when it came to P's control. Sure, although Andre was the one who originally came up with the idea of them (Andre and P) producing The Time. Andre said P, at first, didn't even want to get involved with the project. Andre wanted a vehicle for more of his material to get out and make some money. Much like the premise of The Rebels. U see that didn't last. Once P started to see what Andre was doing, THEN P jumped in and took over, writing MOST of the material. Of course, the lyrics to "The Stick" is Lisa's and "After Hi School" is completely Dez's. Like "Do Me, Baby" is Andre's cut, "Girl" was a cut Andre had since 79. P retooled it with some new lyrics. So, again, it came down to control. I think it was very cool and smart of WB to insist that Jessie, who had good success as a solo artist and Terry and Jimmy, who had BLOWN UP producing Janet's "Control" album, should be involved on the album. They knew The Time with the o.g. members would sell a lot more than without them. Especially with those 3. P knew it knew too. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I didn't know that Andre originally wrote 'Do Me Baby.' Great song. But it wouldn't be the same without Prince's falsetto. Speaking of Dez, was there ever a Modernaire album? Remember he had that brief cameo in Purple Rain and it was rumored he had a Modernaire album. But if it existed, it never hit the streets. All I was able to find on Dez was a Oneman cd. Anybody heard it? Is it any good?

So Urban have you listened to Dez's cd and if so, was it any good? As for Corporate World versus Pandemonium, I"m going to have to side with Corporate World. I've never heard it. But I like all the other Time albums that Prince produced. I thought Pandemonium was cool. But it lacked something. "Somtimes I get lonely" was a great ballad though. Perfect for Morris Day's limited vocal skills...

U must not be a musician, 'cause if you've ever been in a band, regardless of when you were added, you form a certain bond that can be hard, if not impossible , to replace. Believe me, it's not a good feeling. Sometimes, it's all about chemistry. For instance, people still remember the chemistry Prince had with Dez, Wendy and Lisa, and Andre, even though they're long gone. The original Time had that chemistry with each other, built from personal as well as musical experiences. Sometimes, people just vibe with each other - it doesn't come around often...
