Is it just me... ...or does it sound like Appolonia is singing way off key in "Take me with U"?

I wouldn't say "way off key", but she doesn't have a very good voice, so I know what you mean.

don't think her voice was the reason she got hired...

Yeah, but I kinda like it. It gives the song character. She's not way off, but she doesn't hit the notes that accurately. I'll probably be pelted for this but, I like the Beach Boys even though they sing a little off. The off key thing makes it sound like regular guys singing rather than a perfect barber shop quartet. But you're right - she wasn't hired for her vocal abilities. The blessings and curses of being beautiful - a documentary

Yeah it kind of gives the song a special, sentimental quality
My favorite part is when Prince says "You're sheer perfection" and she says "Thank you" it this totally Apollonia way . And my favorite line in the entire movie is when she says in this really super srious voice, looking downward: "It's all I dream about...." Then in a robotic voice "And you.... what do YOU dream about"?

I like the part after Prince tricked her into jumping in the water, When she says in the winiest voice ever "How Many Girls Have You Done This Too?" I think Prince should've had Sheila E sing vocals on that track, Cause Appolonia sings like she has diarrhea. My favorite part is when Prince says "You're sheer perfection" and she says "Thank you" it this totally Apollonia way . when will we all agree that perfect vocal execution aint everything?
perfect example: celine dion part 2 mariah carey two examples of off-key off pitch singing with emotions that work: mary j blidge aretha.....the queen sure, apples aint on the same league as those two but her voice emotionally and dramatically works... Space for sale...

perfect example: celine dion part 2 mariah carey hold up... you're saying that mariah DOES hit the notes perfectly, right?? Otherwise we have a problem two examples of off-key off pitch singing with emotions that work:
mary j blidge aretha.....the queen Mary J WISHES she could be in the same class as Aretha. I heard Chaka was saying that Mary J needs to take some singing lessons.

I heard Chaka was saying that Mary J needs to take some singing lessons. 1) mariah is a technical singer..yes, in the studio she hits the right notes...but the emotion is lacking 2) for me, personally...yes i consider mary having potential to be the next aretha.. but lets not turn this debate into a dissection of my comments....i was just using them to make a point about the specific topic of this thread..... And then there's Bob Dylan. Oh Lord. But it works. The blessings and curses of being beautiful - a documentary

I have NEVER understood that..... or Tom Petty for that matter!!! because you dont need great vocal chops to convey emotion. i think sofran stephens (ehh i know im spelling that wrong) has a weak arse voice but he is still able to tell a story beautifully with his voice...so much so he has moved me to tears on a couple occassions. There are rappers - who sing no melody or pitch at all - then there is Mariah - who hits melodic notes on the head. Bob Dylan is somewhere in the middle of this spectrum where he talk sings his songs with some oblique reference to the melody that he created. If we can consider rap as music, then everything in between rap and mariah can be considered music. A lot of our definitions of what good music is is wrapped up in cultural convention, and some people just break thru that. The blessings and curses of being beautiful - a documentary
