I'm glad the "dancers on stage" era is over

Maybe it's because I'm female, but I'm glad that Prince no longer uses a female dancer on stage with him. I was just watching some videos this morning with Mayte in them, and to me, it just ruines the performance. I would rather see shots of Prince and even the other musicians than Prince's muse at the time. I guess I really didn't mind Cat so much. It seems like she added a little bit to the performances. But I feel that Mayte was just shoved down our throats at times. Am I alone here?

Well from a male point of view, Mayte was more like eye candy rather then a dancer. Cat although not as attractive as Mayte was more of an agressive type dancer. Especially during those Sign O'the Times days. They both fit into what Prince was doing at the time.

Well said Punisher. I agree that both ladies did compliment what was going on at the time.

Yeah, I prefer without Dancers as well. But the one that bugged me more
was Cat.

As long as the dancer is good and the performance is more of a "production number" it's fine.

But I prefer the focus to be on the music and musicians in general.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

You're not alone dusty, I definately thought there was way too much Mayte on stage. But we know now its because he was in love with her. shrug

I'm female, but I don't mind female dancers on stage, as long as they are interesting to watch and have some actual dance ability, and have a little bit of discernible personality, and their being on stage (or, in a video) actually *adds* something to the overall performance.

For instance, Mayte and Cat I really do/did enjoy watching, and I think their being there contributed to the music in a positive way. But then on the other end of the spectrum there was the Boring Eyecandy Duo Diamond and Pearl, who I thought were just needless and added..well, pretty much nothing to anything except that they looked good and could *sort of* dance and jiggle around a little bit. And then the very worst of the bunch -- that irritating blonde twit from the Rave New Year's show. UGH. She was annoying beyond all description, imo, and her dancing added NOTHING to the performance..in fact, I think her crappy 'dancing' detracted from the music.

i liked the dancers.....

I have more of a problem with prince putting his wife on stage in a bikini than with her just being a dancer....yanno.

I miss that era. I can see how alot of women might be offended by it but I'm not. I thought the sexual chemistry he had with alot of his dancers was fun to watch and added to the music and didn't take away from it. I mean Prince knew sex selled so he amped it up. If that is what got his brillaint music noticed than good for him. After all I took notice of him back in the day because I have never seen a man that SEXUAL before....if he wanted male fans to hear his message and the music having Mayte on stage dancing like a stripper then it wasn't so bad was it? At least Prince got alot of radio and MTV play back then.Plus let's not forget the Game Boyz...in some preformances it looked like a Chip 'n Dale's review! lol

I always thought that woman must have been sleeping with Prince to get that gig 'cause she really wasn't that good at dancing. she was very stiff.

Do you know anything about Gladys Knight & the Pips, at all? Are you familiar with their music, have you ever seen them on tv?

Im glad thats over too. He didnt need them. In some of the videos they were ok, (D&P were cool), but onstage Cat was the best. The rest sucked.

Trust me a lot of people on this board don't know anything about Gladys Knigt & the Pips or any real RnB.

When Prince had dancers on the stage he was just making his show entertaining. Sometime I think so few performers today know how to entertain that a lot of people just don't get it because they just don't see enough performers.
