What's the story on Chili Sauce?

I was listening to this yesterday and was wondering who wrote the music, the words Morris was saying, who played the part of the waiter, and what does 'Chili Sauce' mean?

the 1 thing I believe I know about this is that the "waiter" is apparently played by Prince..
it sounds like him, it sounds like a variation of his "Bela Lugosi" voice..

then there is the fact that part of Morris' dialogue in Chili Sauce can also be heard in Purple rain.. the part about the "brass waterbed" & the Italian cook, "Gino Sischagagracci" ("or something like that"..) which makes me wonder was the song dialogue written for the film, or vice-versa??

it would be good to know more info on this "atypical" Time song..

my favorite line in this song is when Morris says
"well honey why don't you just walk your ass over to the other side of the room!"
I'll see you tonight..

Doesn't the music sound a lot like the music from Do Me Baby?

I think it's widely accepted that the waiter is Prince in his "Morris Day/Jaimie Starr" persona.

Doesn't he play the same character as the waiter in Chocolate?

In college I shared an apartment with a friend who could do a perfect impersonation of Morris ( this is about a year after the whole P.R. thing). He got to the point where he would do the voice without realizing that he was doing it. If it was cold outside " My....it's rather chili 2-nite." If he dropped something "Oh lawhd..!" If he needed me to do something he'd say "Jerome...."
One time during finals he was having a tough day. I was in my room studying as was he. The doorbell rang. As he passed my room to answer it, I could hear "Oh lawhd..." under his breath.
I heard the door open, followed by a little boy's voice, " Sir, would you like to buy some candy for my school?"
My roommate in his normal voice, " How much?"
Little boy, " Four dollars."
Quiet pause.
Morris voice, " Say....."
Uh-oh.
"D..do you know how to do the walk?"
I quickly ran out & bought some candy for the both of us.

Ok, of cource the production on Chili Sauce was by Prince aka Jamie Starr. He may have had some help from Morris Day as well. I think the song is cool. The some lyrics were used in the film Purple Rain. As a matter of fact, if u read the Original Script 2 Purple Rain (originally titled: Dream). Most if not all of the lyrics 2 this song was use 4 the film. I wouldn't b surprised if this song along with some songs by Apollonia 6 were recorded 4 Purple Rain (the soundtrack). I mean, the director of Purple Rain did say Prince had 100 songs 4 the record. Just think, this was back in the middle of 1983. Not including the additional recording in 1984 and the other songs from the middle to the end of 1983. Some time in early-mid 1983, director picked 12 out of 100 songs that Prince had and the track Purple Rain did not exist yet.

The basic tracks were recorded at Sunset Sound on Thursday, April 14, 1983, by Prince after he was done mixing “My Summertime Thang”. The title of Chili Sauce was originally “Proposition 17”. The reason it is called that is that there are 17 propositions that Morris seems to use to seduce his date (count them up). Additional vocal overdubs (with Morris) occurred on that Friday (4/15) and through the weekend. It was a period where a lot of Time songs were being worked on by Prince (including “If the Kid…”, and “Chocolate”).

On a side note about those sessions, later that week, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of The Time were fired. They had no involvement on those tracks. As far as I know, Morris and Prince (and Jerome) were the main people involved. These sessions took place before Apollonia was hired.

To me, Chili Sauce was a throwaway track. I didn't care for that song at all, though the dialogue was kind of funny.

Thanx. Wishing there was a book of the sessionography of Prince, but I don't know how many people would buy it.

Is the instrumental "floating around" somewhere? It's a very pretty song.
----
Was the music always intended to just be spoken over? I would love to hear Prince sing over it.
