Vanity's Mechanical Emotion

Why is Morris Day uncredited. I think it would have been better promotion. Any Prince involvement? I hear he & Vanity were (are) on bad terms, but I remember her kissing him at an award show.

Yeah, despite Vanity's "weird" vocals on this song,it was still a jam...

You display Mechanical Emotion
baby,in my own discretion
Oh...you keep me a wreck
baby,I'm sick of this mess

That was probably the best song on the album to me. loved it. As for Vanity and Prince, I remember reading that he got pissed at her for wanting to hire her own agent to represent her during negotiations for the Purple Rain film. Vanity had done some acting prior to being involved with Prince and wanted to handle things in a professional manner. This caused problems in their relationship that they were'nt able to overcome. This is all hearsay so who really knows?

Morris is also playing the drums on this track. If listen to 777-9311,there're very similar drum patterns. Morris is tight on the skins!!!!

Bill Wolfen. There are some slammin' guitar solos on that album.

Vanity also wanted more money than they were willing to pay her.In her view, she was an "experienced" actress, and deserved to paid as such.

How do you Morris played drums? Are you basing this conclusion only on a similarity to 777-9311?

BTW, did you know that Morris was a drummer, before he became a front man?

Wow! It's been ages since I listened to that album. The solo in "Mechanical Emotion" is way cool...but I always thought that it was a synth not a guitar.
If it's a guitar it's very heavily processed or maybe a guitar synthesizer.

Gotta give the entire album a spin when I find the time.....

Listen to "Strap On Robbie Baby". There is a keyboard solo on Mechnical Emotion. (lots of them on the album as well) A guitar solo too, on the album version. The sounds are blended. Could be that old GR-707 guitar synth.

I knew that he was a drummer. That is no secret to any fan that has followed his entire career from the start like me.

Couldn't tell ya. I know that the French lyrics are on the dust cover though.

I'll have to dig it out. Shouldn't be hard to find out with all the translation services out there.

Looking back its funny how funky many of the associated artists debut albums were... Vanity, Morris' Color of Success, Jesse Johnson's, etc... Some tracks hold up better on the dance floor than many from Prince during that time.

I agree and it makes me think that Prince was giving them his good shit and again he was uncredited. Listen to The Family and compare it 2 Around the World In A Day.
