The greatness of Mint Conditon First off, let me just introduce myself. I've lurked for many years and finally activated my account so I can post. You guys are really musically inclined people and I really admire that.
Let's take a minute to discuss one of the last great bands to come out of Minneapolis. They've been around for 17yrs and have yet to get their just due. You have a charasmatic front man and great musicians in that band all around. Let's discuss their history and their greatness. Come on orgers let's do this

The new album is disappointing, but I still rate them very highly.

How was the new album dissapointing to you. It had funk, jazz,R&B all types of music, plus insightful lyrics.
I think it's their best work since "From the Mint Factory"

I like Mint Condition, I know they are from Minneapolis but how are they associated with Prince?

Well, they have a slight connection to him being that JellyBean Johnson discovered them at a supper club in Minneapolis and groomed them. He took them to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to be on their label but before all of that Prince offered them a deal as well.
Stokley also sang banground on "Call My Name" and is in the video with Prince, so they are an associated artist by how they were able to get into the industry through associates of Prince

Greatness is the right word. Livin the Luxury Brown is my favorite MC album. I really love the title track and Fallin Apart, but the one I put on repeat is Runaway.
Can't wait to see these guys live. So Keri Lewis is not related to Terry Lewis??? [Edited 9/26/05 15:41pm] Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I'm not sure if they're related. I heard on another site when someone posted that he was his nephew or something like that.
It's so interesting when I think of the whole Minneapolis movement and how it's really not that strong anymore. There's still a whole slew of musicians who play the local circuits but as far as mainstream widely known success the buzz has died down over the years.

The songwriting is pretty poor, in comparison to their other albums (in particular "From The Mint Factory"). There's no denying that they can play their collective asses off, and that it's well produced; this doesn't count for much however if the material isn't up to scratch.

In case anyone wants to know - you can find the story behind "Call my name" at http://www.allhiphop.com/...es/?ID=152.
I only know some of their songs and I remember a video or two. I like "What kind of man would I be" and I like the fact that they are a real band. Real music for real music lovers...

I love that you send me swinging song and that song about pretty brown eyes! I could listen to that song all day! My sister is a bigger fan, though. She'd smile at this post! "The poets are demanding their pay..."
"I'm a radio I'm a country station I'm a little bit corny I'm a wildwood flower..."
