The most underrated guitarist ever. Dare I say it, better than Prince. Mine are as followed:
1. Can you help me

2. Bare my naked soul

3. fast girls

4. Love struck

5. Vibe.-(Does anybody know the year this was recorded?)

Your list of songs and comment about Prince show how far off base you are. You mean he hasnt written anything better then Fast Girls and Vibe? Did you see Prince slay everyone with his Telecaster at the Hall of Fame in 2004?

If you are choosing 5 songs, 2 of them have to come from the Bare my Naked Soul album - its a motherfuckin tour de force.

1. Brand New Day

2. Cry Like The Skies

3. Can you Help Me; Free World (tied)

4. Im Just Wanting You (the guitar solo alone makes this song great); Black in America (tied)

5. Drive Yo Cadillac; Crazay (tied)

OK, I cheated and got 8 songs in there - it should be top ten with all the great songs he made.

Prince's guitar solo at the hall of fame was one of the best performances I have seen in a long time. He and Jesse are very close as far as pure techincians on the guitar. I just think Jesse slightly edges Prince out. As far as Fast Girls and Vibe, just because they are not completely guitar driven, doesn't mean they aren't funky as hell. Jesse made some funky songs.
Prince to me is the most talented musician in the business. Jesse overall can't touch him.

Didn't dig "Free World" as much - guitar was buried too far back in the mix. And since it is a free world, JesseDezz can pick what he wants cool

I agree, the lead solo is buried WAY back in the mix. If u can't hear the shit, then what's the point?

It is mixed way in the back but that is what I actually like about it. It is one of the greatest peices of Mpls funk ever - right up there with some Time and Prince classics.

My fav Jesse Johnson songs (out of all of his proteges the most sucessful)

1. Can You Help Me
2. Black In America
3. Do yourself a favor
4. Let's have some fun (love the guitar solo in the middle section)
5. I want my girl

My favorite JJ songs leans towards the first 2 albums because of the great memories I have of the "Minneapolis Sound" Of that era of 1980- 1986 (high school) even though I have all his albums and love "Bare My Naked Soul" musically.
