I didn't start off telling these kind of stories - check out the original threads. Some of you asked us for these stories so I thought that's what you wanted and believe me we're REALLY REALLY holding back. If you want, we'll stop with the sex stuff that's cool. Yes, beautiful people tend to get better jobs and more promotions. Unfortunately for the women, there is a certain point where their competence comes into question, since beautiful women are often stereotyped as being dumb. So they might have an easier time getting a job but a harder time reaching the higher levels of promotion. So it's a double edged sword.

I've been trying to catch up. Been away for awhile. Great discussion on "beauty." Here's one, I was elected to a local government position three years ago. Last year at a bar, a man came up to me and recognized me. He stated that he voted for me (nice ) because he thought I was "hot." Now that's scary, hopefully, the majority of people vote more thoughtfully

Hey artpal...I was wondering in the beauty documentary did you guys ever hit on the issue of fathers and their reactions to their daughters turning into beautiful women? I think that is something that is incredably profound in how a beautiful woman interacts with men in the future...I can definatly say now after I think about it my father's reaction to me when I turning to a woman was akward and he really detatched himself from me....I think in a way sometimes dancing is my way of trying to get men's attention after feeling rejected by my father.

Did something like that ever come up in your documentary?

I have a question. Obviously the ideal of beauty plays a large role in society, and in particular in the music industry. Are we ready as a society to stop encouraging the idea that music sells because the singer is "sexy" ? Are we starting to maybe see a trend back to great music without the selling of the artist's looks first? (Except for the Pussycat Dolls, which seems like a new Milli Vanilli prank, I could be wrong, but...)

A silly music question... what do you think of mandolin, have either of you ever played one? How about Prince?

i dont know...there are some pretty ugly musicians out there. what pops in my heda at the moment is david bowie (sorry, i think he's ugly!) and McJagger (never did see what women saw in hm either!). I am sure there are quite a few more out there that just aren't popping into my head at the moment.

Of course, P's handsome looks didn't "hurt" his career", but I honestly believe the industry can really take take an average person and make them "look" the part.

Mandolin!? I love the mandolin!!! Especially in songs like "Goin to California" by Led Zepplin. I tinkered with a banduria once, which is sort of a Filipino version of it. I'm sure I can figure out how to play it, since it is similar to bass and guitar, which I know how to play. (Although I'm not as funky on the bass as Bassdame is). Do you play?
